I really hope this "Metro Look" doesn't catch on

Only if you close your eyes and press windows key at startup, never insert an usb stick and make sure your cursor never touches a corner of the screen.

But I'm getting a bit depressed by the irrational hate-spewing. I've been using Win8 for months now, like every previous Windows version some things are better, some things are worse. I like the fullscreen startmenu, win+x menu and ribbon in Explorer. I don't care for Metro-apps but don't hate them either. And you don't need a touchscreen to use this os at all, it works just fine with mouse only.

All i needed to do was make a shutdown shortcut and there are plenty of tutorials for that. You could just as well press the button on your pc but years of start > shutdown has conditioned me well.

So then one can't completely and utterly avoid Metro in Win8?
I can boot directly to windows and I don't use third party utilities, just what Windows 8 offers. The closest I come to Metro is the search screen and I don't use that often. My experience is close to exactly like 7 with a few new perks. Still have to login if I reboot but I go for weeks without seeing Metro except to check out apps and so far that isn't very compelling.
