Some background first. My parents just moved in to a new house. There is no TV antenna so the reception is terrible, and they don't have cable. Unpacking has been kind of hectic so we went out to see a movie last weekend where my mom saw the X-men 2 trailer. So now she wants to rent the first movie this weekend, and she emailed me this.

I thought if we are going to go see X2, I should watch the first movie first. If I rented it this weekend would I be able to watch it on the TV when we don't have reception?

Edit: Here's what I said and the reply I got.

Me: As far as the movie goes, the channel reception has nothing to do with watching a video on a tape or dvd.

Mom: I thought the VCR adn DVD player would work w/o the reception, but just had to check.

I feel your pain! My mom teaches Chemistry, Biology, and Physics but can still not manage to program the time on her VCR!

I bought her and Dad a surround sound system for Christmas, and they still have not figured out how to work the remote.
