I really hate Asus tech support

I just want to vent my frustrations about dealing with Asus tech support/RMA and this stupid board.

Long story short, I had to get an RMA for my board because it never would recognize my maxtor SATA HD after doing all the troubleshooting etc etc.

I paid shipping and waited 3+ weeks to get the RMA (they wouldn't cross ship), to get it today.

Looking at the receipt, ALL they did was CLRTC which I had done anyway earlier, and sent me back the SAME board.

Set it up anyway, and yup same issue no HD detected.

Called tech support again and ran through the troubleshooting, and he set it up to get me an RMA again.

I just now need to call again tomorrow morning, and he said they would cross ship. I am going to b!tch them out and try to get them to pay shipping TO them too, because it is a bunch of BS what they did.

Summarily a big F you to Asus and this piece of crap MB.

Christ i hate Asus, so much problems with them, including my aunts K8V that had to me RMAed for the usb and firewire failing. Myself and two other friends also experience blatant inferior motherboard design. I can't understand how people like them so much. Not to mention their tech support is non-exsistant.

Any chance they'd give me another type of board if I yelled enough? :)

I got this from the AMD bundle deal, so I can't really return it. I might sell it and get something else if this next RMA doesn't prove satisfactory.

Sigh, I have this 6800 GT just waiting to get this computer up and running for now a month :)

Yelling probably won't get you much except hung up on. You attract more flies with honey. Tell them the entire situation, including what they did on the first RMA, and explain that it clearly didn't work. Then maybe at least they'll give you a new board. If not, then I guess you can take your business elsewhere (but don't say that to them, you'll just sound silly).

It's worth a shot :) I don't want to drag out a dead horse and beat it some more, but are you sure the SATA drive is actually working?

I have had good luck overall with Asus, having a work fleet of about 36 A7N266-VM's, maybe 16 CUV4X's, and having owned a couple of A7N266-VM's, an A7N8X Deluxe, K8V Deluxe and now a K8N-E Deluxe. The only bad apple was that d*%# A7V333-RAID :frown: Asus and VIA both had something to answer for on that one.

My K8V Deluxe did have an issue with my card reader, but amazingly enough it was resolved with a BIOS update that particularly addressed that. I eventually gave it to someone and AFAIK it's still working ok for him.

I've heard of SATA problems on other boards as well so I don't think this is just Asus deal.

Anyways I know of plenty of Asus installs and they always went well.

I have never dealt with a completely competant tech support team. In my recent memory of bonehead tech support, Electronic Arts, ATI and zdnet.com all take the prize for sending boneheaded form letter replies that had absolutely nothing to do with my problem.

My suggestion is to get on the phone with one of the techs, and then escalate as soon as they don't understand / try to BS you. Usually, the more competant techs are in the second or third "tier" of support... and these people are usually actually responsible for ensuring customers are satisfied with their tech support (in the same way as you would complain to a restaurant manager instead of the waiter if your food sucked).

I THINK the SATA HD works. In fact I guessed that might be the original issue, so I RMA'd it back to Maxtor, but same issue with the RMA. It gets warm and I think spins up when I power up, so I don't think it is the HD.

But I might go see if Staples or CompUSA's policies about returns and try another SATA HD if they are liberal about openining packages.

your probably one of the many users that are content to slap in ram, cpu, hard drive, and a video card and use onboard everything and never add extra stuff or demand a lot from a system.

OP, I hope you wrote a nice letter to include with your mobo when you sent it in. Detailing exactly what you did to troubleshoot the board.

And I only had 2 motherboards fail on me. Both were ASUS. So what does this prove? Nothing.

Asus support SUCKS. I will not buy another ASUS product because of their non-existent support. Good luck trying RMA something to them.

I included a print out of my case -- it explicitly stated everything that had been tried etc.

Anyway I got them to cross ship a replacement board so I didn't have to wait another month, and UPS is supposed to pick up the old board today -- so on their dime.

If the replacement board doesn't work, then I am selling it and getting something else, because this has been a nice PITA and time sink.

My Mate had troubles with the same board. Can run Windows ME on the Maxtor 120gb SATA Drive (though clearly ME is not preferable :( ), but when installing XP cant get it to detect it (even though he can then go back to ME without a reformat :| ! ). Tried all the drivers onto Floppy's crud and still no dice..

I'm definitely going for the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (Nforce3-250 for teh win!).

LOL! You probably weren't installing the SATA drivers properly. Windows doesent automatically detect a SATA drive!! you need to load the drivers on a floppy and load them up by pressing F6 during windows install. You need to install VIA drivers if you are plugged into the VIA controller, and same goes for the Promise drivers and Promise controllers. If you RMA'd your board for that, they sent you a new one and you claim its the "same" because it has the same "problem", try installing them correctly this time. How did you try to install them just out of curiosity?

For the record, I have now built 4 systems including mine, with the K8V SE deluxe, for friends and a family member, and we all love it. We have never had any problems with the board. Never any crashes or problems.

It seems like everyone is going through HELL with ASUS. This also includes me and my ASUS A7N8X Deluxe v2.0. I'll tell ya, its far from Deluxe. Was working fine until I got my new eVGA GeForce 6800 GT...there also seems to be multiple problems there too with other people. I ordered my board last year from newegg.com and guess what, its 8 days past my year warranty, they don't care, "call ASUS they said"....grrr I hate them too. So I call ASUS, and they refused to do an Advance RMA, why the F not I was wondering, they get my credit card number and stuff, its not like they're going to lose anything. I just want a new mobo d@mm!t, not a refurbished one or have my CMOS erased I already did that. Lets continue with how my board stopped working:

Day One (day of recieving from newegg.com): I installed the mobo with my XP 2000+ and everything runs like it should. With my GeForce 4 Ti 4200 and my 512MB of RAM.

Somewhere around a half a year: memory gets fried, Centon sends me new one after 2 weeks

New RAM installed: I turn on the computer, RAM gets fried a second time, Centon graciously RMAs again.

New new RAM installed in different slot: works like a charm

a month ago: My GeForce 4 Ti 4200's fan died.

2 weeks ago: My GeForce 4 Ti 4200 exploded.

last Thursday: Purchased eVGA e-GeForce 6800 GT from Circuit City for approx $400. Immediately after installing the new video card, I get a Blue screen of death (BSOD for short). I figure, reinstall drivers, should take care of it, I was wrong. I read the manual for the card, it says, reformat recommended, so I do so. Halfway though installation, I get a BSOD, I didn't know this was possible. So I call ASUS and inquire as to what the hell's going on. They tell me I need a new PSU because 300W is too tiny for a 6800. I say, "That makes sense" so I order 420W PSU from newegg.com.

Two days ago: I get new PSU. Install and boot up computer. Attempt to install Windows XP and get a BSOD. Then the computer shuts off by itself without me touching it. I attempt to turn it back on and I get absolutely nothing.

Today: I call eVGA and ask them what they think, I tried the card in my bro's computer and to my surprise, the 6800 has taken a crap. I think my mobo fried it. So, I take it back to CC and they order me a new one because they are out of stock and don't have any in the warehouse. I come home, bust out an older 128MB Ti 4200 from my server computer, and well, still nothing happens when I press the power switch. I call ASUS and ask them what's up with it, and he says immediately, go online and do an RMA. I say in my head "5h!t, he didn't even attempt to help me", so I do some experimentation. I know my PSU is good considering its 2 days old. I shorted the green and black wires on the PSU connector while attached to MOBO and the compy starts up! YAY!!! *powers down* $@$%#$%!!!!!! I am really angry. So I call them back and say "I want help now and I don't have time to wait 4 weeks for RMA" and he says "take mobo out of case, place on counter-top or table, and hook PSU to mobo with no CPU or HDD or Graphics card. I ask myself, "what the hell is this proving?" Absolutely nothing, he said it might be getting shorted out by the case, well, I know it wasn't because its completely obvious that its something else. So, now I have to wait to call them back because they are only open until 6pm PST, I live in EST, so more time for me to call I guess but its too late now. I'm going to see if I can badger them into sending me a new Mobo with an advance RMA because I need my board RIGHT NOW, I've got things to DO!!! This shall be the last of my ASUS purchases.

Gigabyte, MSI, or FIC seem to be quite nice according to my friends. The best company I've ever seen do and RMA is Western Digital. I give them my CC number and I get my drive within 3 days, send them old drive, and everything is set, although I have had all three of my WD drives take a crap, one of the drives I got back was Refurbished instead of new.

I also read the BBB.org stuff on ASUS, and found that they have 46 complaints filed against them, that's completely ridiculous. So, if I get any crap from them tomorrow, the 5h!t is going to hit the fan.
