<--hit a squirrel once :(

problem was that I only hit half the squirrel... the back half. and so when screeched to a stop and looked in my rear view mirror, I could see the poor thing trying to drag itself away using it's front legs, but the back half of its body was smooshed. yeah, so i'm not the hunting/fishing type, or accustomed to putting injured animals outta their misery, but i think i made the right decision when i put the car in reverse and finished the job. I can only hope that I was accurate when I was backing over it; I couldn't make myself look that time...just drove away with my hands shaking on the wheel. that was an awful day:(

so be glad you hit 1 squirrel and not .5 squirrel, i s'pose?

Don't worry, you did it a favor. Tree rats are probably one of the dumbest animals over to scamper across the street.

I was in the car with a friend once that hit a chicken. It caused $1200 worth of damage to his car. That was an expensive lunch.

I ran over one a few months ago when I borrowed my dad's SUV on my way home from work. My windows were down, and I remember feeling and hearing the crunch as I went over it. It had started to cross the street and had gone past my lane, then it decided to double back and that's when it got in my way. It was the first rodent I ever ran over, so naturally I felt bad. I remember looking at the remains every time I drove to/from work for the next week and a half, and saying to myself "Sorry guy, but I had to stay on the road". :(

i once saw this run-over squirrel... apparently it was ran over at just the right angle so that the body was flattened like a bear rug and the guts came out through its mouth
not a pretty sight :(

<< Most importantly, in the future, don't swerve to miss small animals. Even if they look like a pet. It's a good way to hit another car, a mailbox, a telephone pole, etc. Lots of accidents are caused when someone swerves to hit an animal... >>

I would rather someone swerve to miss my cat and hit my car then to have anything happen to my cat. My cat is more important than my car.

Thats terrible. I don't know if I could back over it again, even if I knew I was putting it out of its misery.
