:( I saw it out of the corner of my eye right before it went under the middle of my car. I heard a thump and saw it tumbling down the street. I feel bad about it but there's nothing I can do. Too bad it wasn't a left-handed French Canadian, they're the worst!;) J\K

I hit a possum the day after I got my new car (in 1997). I was heading to a friends wedding and going down a 2lane backroad with canals and such on each side. All of a sudden I see a big 'cat' like thing run out from the side of the road then WHAM. I had a brief moment to slam on the brakes but I was being tailgated so I would have been in more danger to try and stop and I probably still would have hit the possum.

I kept on going until I could find a place to pull over. Put a big dent in my new 'pastic' bumper and tore a small crack in a support part you can't see unless you look for it. I was able to pop the plastic back in place so cosmetic damage was minimal (can't say the same for the possum!). Damn thing was Suicidal but it could have been worse.

I hit a skunk once at 3am driving down the highway... didn't see it until it was about 20 feet away from me. I guess all the night time camoflauge didn't help that poor fella...:(

I was attacked by a squirrel once....well kinda. I was walking along and there is a 5-6feet concrete wall on one side. The squirrel jumps off the wall, bounces off my head and on to the tree on my right. Scared thd sh*t out of me! I will revenge the attack some day!

Don't feel bad, there's lots more where he came from.

Most importantly, in the future, don't swerve to miss small animals. Even if they look like a pet. It's a good way to hit another car, a mailbox, a telephone pole, etc. Lots of accidents are caused when someone swerves to hit an animal...

True. If it's between a squishable and control, choose control. (Actually, one of my advanced MC instructors mentioned this, but then again two wheels are less stable than four.)
