I ran over a guy today *UPDATED with article*

Looney

Lifer
The guy robbed my store, here's the story:

I was sleeping when i heard the panic alarm go off. So i ran down and grabbed an escrima stick i had by the door. I ran into the store, and saw him smashing our cash register on the ground, and my mom was behind the counter scared crapless. Then he got up, and i saw the knife, and he was brandishing it my mom, so i stepped out of the store. When he got the money from the cash register, i allowed him to step out since my mom was still in danger, but he booted and i chased him, and he hopped on the bike that he had hidden on the side of the store. He got on it, and rode down the street, while i was chasing and screaming 'he just robbed the store'.

My neighbors were out front working on their house, and saw that i was chasing a guy in my bathrobe, so they figured he was the robber i was talking about, and chased him on foot. I ran back into the house and grabbed my shoes and keys. Got in my car and raced around the corner, where i saw him on his bike, and ran him down. He wasn't too badly hurt, but by that time he got rid of the knife and found a bat, and was battling it out with my neighbors who also had a pipe and a stick. I got out of the car with my stick, and ran towards him uttering threats (it sounds corny, but i was saying 'ok, lets rock motherfvcker'), and he ran into a house. The 3 of us quickly ran to all the entrances of the house and made sure he didn't come out as cops came. 30 secs later, about 10 cruisers came down (the station is like a few blocks away from where we were), and took him out quietly.

Anyways, that's my highlight of the day. The officiers were congratulating me for stopping him, i figure i would be charged with some kind of assault as well, but i'm not. They also found the knife he threw away. Nobody was in the store, apparently he walked in like a normal customer, and made sure there was no customers before approaching my mom. My mom accidentally jammed the register because she was so nervous, that's why he was smashing the register.

Well, that's all for now... spent over 2 hours with the police taking statements, showing them the route he took so they could find the knife, and had to wait for them to remove the bike under my car. If you're in the KW/Cambridge area, this should be on the news/newspaper... there was a couple of reporters there within 5 mins of this happening. So if you hear anything of a Ming's Asian Foods getting robbed, and a guy running him over, that's me.

I'm a little prouder of this one, last time around this year, somebody robbed the store too. I ran down in my undies while i was in the shower when i heard the panic alarm. The guy tried to stabbed me with the knife as he got out since i was blocking the door, but i was able to side step it and lock the knife arm under my armpit, while trying to knock him out/go for his jugular with my other free hand, but he had a thick Colorado Avalanche coat on, with the hood and face thing on, so it wasn't doing any damage. He was bigger than me, and knocked me to the ground after a bit, and i tried chasing him down the street... but chasing after a guy in your undies with no shoes on, with 3 inches of snow on the ground was hard... although my neighbors also chased the guy, he got away when he ran through some backyards.

Anyways, i'm beat. The adrenaline is gone now and i'm exhausted.

Variety store owner's son chases, catches robber

They got quite a few things wrong, but most of it is correct... it's not a variety store, it's an asian food store. It's actually about the size of a variety store, but we're also a delivery service that supplies half of the chinese and vietnamese restaurants in this area with fresh produce 3 times weekly (ie, beansprouts).

hahaha! i can just see it 🙂 that's a cool story! i wish i was in canada so i could see u on the news!!! 🙂 happy thanksgiving

OMFG

!!!

I'm glad you are not being charged if even technically running him over may not have been strictly legal. In my books it was totally ok.

Do you have a link of the news story on any canadian news sites? This is one of the best AT posts 😛

Hopefully you won't be sued...ie, when the guy fell through a skylight and broke bones trying to rob some people...he sued and won. :|

It happened in Canada, not sue-capital of the world 🙂

Of course in Canada it's not very legal to use lethal force on an intruder unless you're totally and absolutely able to prove that your life or somebody elses was in harm.

Congrats. I'll check out the local news around that time...I think I get one of those Kitchener channels here.

BTW, the cops just busted some house burglars in my area thanks to my neighbour who caught them in the act and confronted them. It appears 4 teens were doing all the robbing so everything should quiet down until another set of teens is stupid enough to try to fsck with my neighbourhood😉 Strike two for the good guys I guess🙂

Hm, that reminds me, i think there is a local newspaper website... this just happened like 3 hrs ago, and i just spoke to the last reporter like 20mins ago, so it might not be there till later today or tomorrow

No kidding, I remember reading about that!!

Do we have a Fugged up legal system in this country or WHAT!!

Good stuff! I'm glad you were able to protect your store and family.

I'll watch for it at 6pm on CKCO... and see if its in the KW Record tomorrow too.

dude.
u kick ass.. 🙂

have u had any martial arts training, or are u naturally a fighter...i figured u would 'cause of your escrima stick 🙂

anyway, if u get your hands on that newspaper article, scan that and post it! 🙂 heehehhehe

Good job, dude! That's awesome.

hahahaha! This has got to be one of the funniest things I've seen in a while. 😀
some people are so clueless as to what goes on elsewhere in the world.

Awesome!

Too bad you weren't in your undies this time. I think that if some guy in his undies chased down a crook and confronted him he'd be my new hero.

There's just something morbidly amusing about a guy in his grundies wielding a baseball bat screaming "Lets go mother fscker!" at a would be robber. 😀

Escrima is a Filipino fighting stick... a super light rattan stick, but hard as a pipe. You know when you see martial artists swinging around with a stick in each hand, doing figure 8s and stuff, that's what they use. I lost my other one years ago, so i only had one.

Well, i was turning the corner when i saw him... and the street was a two way street, and he was on the other end of the sidewalk. I zeroed in on him, crossed the little median, and accelerated hard. I don't know exactly how hurt he got, but he was limping for a bit it looked like.

But the real heroes are my neighbors. They didn't have to get involved, but they did. When he took off on the bike, they could have just ran into the house and called the police, but they followed him for a few blocks, and was confronting him when i knocked him off the bike. He attacked one of them, and instead of running, he dodged the attack and whacked him with the pipe in the stomach.

LOL everybody laughed when i told them that last time. It's not like any of this was recorded on the news... i didn't even get to really talk to the reporters until just now, since the officers kept wanting me to describe what happened, how the bike got under my car, which route he took, could i take them so they could find the knife, and all the while i just wanted to go home to see if my mom was ok (but couldn't for a good hour because i couldn't move the car with the bike under it)... i didn't even bring my cellphone, so i couldn't even call her to tell her if i was ok or not.

Seems like he's got some serious charges... Robbery, Robbery with a weapon, Attempted Assault, Assault (when he attacked my neighbor). Probably a good 5 years, all for $20.
