I bought a x800xl for about 200 bucks from compusa today and when i put it in and attempted to boot it said i need to plug it in the power supply, so im like no big deal then guess what , i dont have a 6 pin power connector.....on the box it sais clearly no additional connection to power supply needed but again have been mislead by ATI... I wanted to get my card running tonight but i guess not. It wouldnt be a big deal if i could just go to compusa tomorrow and buy an adapter but im pretty sure they dont have one, my only option is to buy a new power supply , and pay like double for it since its from compusa, then take out everything from my case to install it which is a huge pain in the ass , cause i when i built my pc i had a friend over to help me with the panel lights and buttons........Also i dont even know if this card will work well with my motherboard, turns out my motherboard isnt very compatible with nvidia cards........

so its like have to spend another 100 bucks to buy a new power supply for something im not sure is going to work...in the meantime im still waiting for 2 refunds from newegg that i have not received........

and what id it dosent work , take out everything and put in the old power supply again ?

i'd like to say i officially quit, im just taking the card back to compusa tomorrow , get my money back and just not play the latest games....screw it

wanted to thank all the people on here that helped me, i appreciatte your time.

I'm certin they will have a spliter at compusa, 3 bux and your good to go. There is no reason you should have to replace the PSU unless it's a total POS and one more connection will kill it.

1) X800XL's aren't nVidia cards, last I checked

2) you don't need to fuss with the case's wires and lights to replace a PSU, go for it :)

3) if you think it over and decide to get a new PSU from CompUSA, you're probably going to end up with an Antec. If you get a NeoPower II model, make sure that you plug the PCI-Express power cable into the PSU the right way around, it matters. The end that says PCI Express in white letters goes to the video card.

I know some retail cards come with a power cable adapter? Not one in the box?

my case its pretty small, i doubt i can get the power supply out without taking out the motherboard , the cpu seems to be in the way

i looked inthe box and nothing, ati is telling me i dont need an extra power supply connection and yet i do , and they dont even give me one.

Several brands did utilize the external power plug on the X800XL.....can't recall which for sure, I believe Leadtech, MSI and another but not positive. These cards made use of this for suppossed extra O/C'ing ability....
