I quit smoking.

With Chantix. Actually not that bad of an experience. A 20-year habit gone. I went into it kicking and screaming. Two weeks later I'm a non-smoker. Stopped taking chantix after 14 days. It has been six days since I stopped the Chantix and 12 days smoke free and I feel fantastic. Mornings are tough, I use Atomic Fireballs and gum to deal with cravings which are no harder to get over than a nostalgic moment about a deceased loved one.

Also nice not forking a pile of money over to the tobacco company and the tax man every day. And stinking like a bastard.

The first 2 weeks are the hardest, usually if you can conquer that, you can stay off for awhile.

So congrats on making it that far!

The hard part is over. I'm too far done to go back ever again. I tell myself —*nobody is holding a gun to my head. The hard part was the week of depression, my body dealing with the Chantix and the grief of getting over the habit like a friend dying or something. I emerged from that hell a few days ago feeling empowered and pretty excited and proud of myself. Now that the Chantix is finally losing its grip over my body, I feel genuinely great.

You need ecigs too.

no thanks. I'm free of nicotine completely. No point in the e-cig. I no longer need the drug. Nobody needs my money because I'm an addict anymore. e-cig is a crutch. Just quit.

Sorry to hear. I'm gonna go have one now. 😛

Hey, I know man. It really isn't so bad living without it. The drug has a way of being romantic at just the right moments, sort of like a domestic abuser you can't get away from.

Just put water in it. Will help ease the desire to hold a real smoke.

I quit in April 2004. It's going to be tough for a while...even now, I still have a mild craving now and then.

I chewed so much Doublemint and green Orbit gum. 😛

edit: just wait for the black tar to start coming up from your lungs.

Congrats! I quit, again, 2 1/2 months ago. Cold turkey as always. I'll wake up one day and decide I'm done (when waking up in the morning sucks bad enough) and after 2 days the nicotine is out of my system and I'm over it.

I guess the habit part sticks around for a week or so, that luring "a coffee and a smoke would be AMAZING right now" feeling when you get to work in the morning, but after 2 or 3 weeks you just completely forget you used to smoke.

I applaud your efforts and wish you well. Smoking is stupid. Get ready to enjoy natural highs and lows in life, not artificial plateaus.

I liked Chantix. It was cool because you only had to convince yourself for a couple seconds to swallow a pill, and you were done. It did all the work after that.

I tried those Nicorette gums, and more often than not, smoked while I was chewing them. A good $80 down the drain; felt just like a fad diet thing but for smoking.

Chantix is a patch right? The hardest thing for me when I try to quit, is not having something in my hands, or drawing in a breath of smoke. Was this an issue for you? How did you get over it?

Good job! Don't crack, I quit around 8 years ago, first few weeks are awful, but stick to it and it will get easier.

Chantix is a pill.

Using both the patch and gum at the same times works very well for some people.

Nope. Pill. Do some reading on it. Very cool product. You take a pill once a day, you keep smoking. After a while, you want a cigarette less and less. After a while, you stop taking the pill, and you're done.

I had some issues with other medication I take, so I had to go off of it before I got the full effect. I switched to e-cigs instead. Not a perfect solution, but a heck of a lot cheaper and better for everyone around me.

Just remember you are smoking less, so the withdrawal will still occur. Instead of getting the nicotine through a patch, you are just gong to be smoking less.

Which goes back to my original post. Convince yourself for a couple seconds to take a pill every day, and it will take care of the rest.

Good for you, nerp! I'm working on 9 years, this Thanksgiving, and also loving not supporting the tobacco companies and politicians (with their cigarette taxes).

The cravings will taper off, with time. The toughest part will be if you hang out at a bar, since it's just natural to light up there, but you can get past ANY craving, with just a little bit of will power.

Keep up the good work!
