I put my TSL Thornbird Tires on My truck...

Whohoo! these things rock! They are 33 x 12.50 r16's and they have huge lugs. They are made for 4 wheeling, and 4 wheeling only. They have a 80 mph speed limit, and I doubt I would exceed that any time soon. They are insanely loud. at 40 mph it sounds like a jet engine. When I slow down from 65 (take my foot off gas ) it sounds like a jet engine turning off.

I bought 2 last may, and finaly picked up the other 2 and had them put on friday. here is a picture of one. Look at the fricking side lugs on those!

I wanted to test them out in mud, as I went to a comercial park kinda near my house and drove around in where they are doing some land reconstruction / modifing. there was a big 8" deep lake kinda thing ( big ass puddle ) that I went through. I stopped in the middle of it then stomped on it. ( in 2 wheel ) the tires doug a good 10" into the mud pretty much instantly, and threw mud rooster tails a good 50' behind me. They laughed at the mud and tossed my truck forward like I was on asphalt. My old Coopers and Michilans (I think that is what I had last ) would have spun and spun and spun till I was burried in the mud up to my floorboards. the bad thing is on the asphalt, they lack traction compaired to what I had last time. Use to much gas and they break loose. If it is wet, and sealcoated, forget it. I might as well be driving on ice. Did I mention they are loud? 😀

I can't wait to try them in the snow!

You had to buy two in May and the other two last week? Just to satisfy my own curiosity, how much do these things cost?

Heh - speaking of tires and cost, my little brother has to figure out a way to pony up for a new set to put on his '94 Firebird Formula, and he's looking at $120 or something a piece, minimum. Me? I just need four 235/75 R15s for my '93 Blazer. Cheap compared to what he's got to get.

Nate

The first 2 were $155 (iirc) shipped from 4 wheel parts and wholesalers. The second 2 were $159 shipped, balanced, and installed from Discount tire. ( figures. They charged me $35 to mount the other 2 the bastards! ) IIRC they are a 305 70 r16 equivelent.

Will ya look a that! They make Thornbirds for your truck 😛
29 x 10.50 r15's They are slightly larger by 1" in width and 1/2" in height, but they should fit without a problem.

Cool. Thanks for the suggestion, but I think I'll stick to the regular tires

a) it does snow around here once in a while, and it rains a lot. With my tendency toward a lead foot - it runs in the family 😛 - I'll take the extra on-road traction.

b) I don't do enough off-roading to justify tires like that

c) I'm already partially deaf; the last thing I want to do is lose what's left of my hearing because of tire noise😛

Why don't you get STREET tires for the street? Just want to look cool? That is a damn safety hazard that makes real off roaders look bad.

Nah, I got them because I do go off-roading frequently. Every winter, I also drive around and pull people out of ditches whenever it snows. I figured these would help in that endeavor. Frankly, I will probably buy another set of rims and use these only as 4 wheeling and snow tires since they are pretty loud. If I have to make any long trips this winter I will be using my Zuk because of the noise.
