I pulled a prank on a guy I know and now I feel bad

That wasn't a prank, that was infliction of emotional distress. You heard that he really wanted a bike, so you set up a fraudulent listing targeting him. You ignored other buyers until the fish bit, and deliberately misled him into believing he was buying a bike.

You should either buy his guitar back or sell him a bike of the value you listed to him for what you listed the price as.

This weekend I see him and he says "Thanks a lot asshole, I sold my guitar at a loss to buy that bike" Not only did he sell his guitar for 100 less than he wanted but he also drove an hour one way to Guitar Center to get rid of it. Now I feel bad, I thought I would just prank him and make him waste 20 minutes at the WM parking lot and that would be it, I had no clue he would be selling his bike(edit:guitar).

Well my intentions by going over to her apartment were to apologize for sending the pics and to explain that it wasn't what it looked like. Angry women + available friend things just happened.
The pictures did look real tho so don't blame her. They would have broken up anyways we all gave them 6 months tops.

This "prank" is seriously the lamest thing I've ever seen. You should reimburse him the $100 he lost on the guitar plus the fuel cost for fucking around.

People, he didn't force the dude to sell his guitar for $100 less than he wanted. If the guy can't afford to buy a bike, he shouldn't be buying the bike, ya know? He was going to have to sell the guitar anyway to buy the bike apparently. What makes him think he would have gotten $100 more if he waited and sold it later?? The guitar was worth what it's worth whether he sold it now or in 1 month. Maybe it's $100 less that he wanted but that must be the going rate. What if this listing was real and he showed up and the bike was $hitty and he had sold his guitar anyway.
Guy should have made sure he had $1000 cash before looking at any bikes worth $1000. Then AFTER he bought a bike if he felt strapped for cash he could sell a guitar. He's probably one of those people that spends every dime he has and is constantly broke b/c he's buying guitars and $1000 bikes he can't afford.

The guy was dumb for doing what he did. If it had been anyone else he still would have been out just the same.

With that being said, you know the guy (and I assume you will see him again), you feel bad, do your conscience right and make up his loss.

After you pay him $100 though I do hope you later find out that he didn't actually lose $100 and was just trying to make you feel bad. 🙂
