Okay, so simply because I don't believe in Christ, should I go in to work when everyone else has off? Should I not visit and exchange gifts with people I care about? Or perhaps I should do my own version of Christmas in the middle of June, and demand off of work for it.

I'll tell you what. If, for some odd reason, America celebrated Nigerian independence day and gave me a day off of work....You're damn right I'd celebrate it too. :p

I don't celebrate Christmas for religion...I do it for family, peace, togetherness and all that. ...and it's fun. I guess everyone has their own concept of what "celebrate" means.

...for the record, I do have to work on Christmas (but I don't get a choice in the matter :( )

And I suppose you also have a good reason for it being on the 25th?

Congrats. But let's try to keep Christ in Christmas.

Unless christ doesn't exist in our world.

Christ has nothing to do with christmas.

Christmas. Wow, you're absolutely right.
What other relationship is there?

Mass, messe. Depending on the language.

Christmas is a Pagan holiday. The TRUE TRUE meaning of December the 25th is Pagan, christians later stole the holiday and created some stupid myth around it. On December the 22nd the Sun is at it's weakest point of the year, and begins a 3 day cycle into the new solitice. For these 3 days the ancients would say that the Sun of God had died, and later on the 25th of December, the Sun was born again or simply born when it finally entered the new solitice and was now at the highest point of energy.

Yeah, because that happens to be the day the holiday is designated for. You think Christ was born on exactly December 25th? I'm fairly confident that there just might be a discrepency between our modern calendars and those used back then. Especially considering the popular faith of the time (in Christ's town at least) was Judaism, which uses a completely different calendar system.

I really dont get all of this "holidays, not Christmas" crap. I do not celebrate Christmas, I am not a Christian. But frankly, I really dont care about people talking about Christmas or Christmas trees. I hate Christmas music everywhere, but I will deal with it. I understand that I live in a place that is predominantly Christian. But, in return, I expect people to respect my religion and my holiday.

Most do (or should anyway).

We should rename it "Everyone gather around and touch shilala's special purpose".
That'd be nice.
I'll expect 100% participation from all of you.
