That's odd, I didn't think the Swiss had the backbone to take sides without some sort of monetary return.

You're lucky you edited that in time, I was gonna quote you. Imagine the irony if everyone saw your post before you edited it :p

eh? I accidently replied inside his quote, and fixed that during the edit. Also took out all the rest of the quotes to make it look prettier.

Oh I'm sure many adults would say the same thing.

I would wager that no more than 1/4 of the US adult population could pinpoint Iraq on a map if there were not names on the countries. I'm not kidding either.

I would be willing to bet that is true for any country.

I hate to break this to you, but a full 50% of the swiss population are below average

Intelligence is fairly evenly distributed around the world. The average American is no dumber than the average person from<insert your favorite country>.

In America: "Where you from? Switzerland? Ahaaaa, all the blond girls with blue eyes" hell no, that's SwEDEN, not SwITZERLAND. I'm not talking about intelligence, they might be intelligent, but they don't know how to use it ;)

Did anyone consider the author of the article at all? Dave Barry is a humor columnist, not a social commentator. He knows that the only responses which are valuable to him are those that prove his point; had he quoted every response, we might see some glimmer of hope.

What is general knowledge over there, is not general knowledge over here. My history knowledge is better than most and I will still admit I know very little about Europe. I am sure when it come down to details and trivia, the average European is fairly ignorant about the States as well.

Hm? No, they're always confusing Switzerland with Sweden. It wasn't about how they look like :)

Switzerland is expensive, but I think we earn also more, so it's in balance. For us is America a steal for vacations :) It maybe in the same ratio(earn/cost) like in any other country though.

I have no doubt you can all the countries in Europe, but i have my doubts if you could name all the states in the US and get their proper locations right. The concept is pretty much the same.

Lets take Asia. I mean everyone in the World should know where China is, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, etc. The USA are a country, so you can't really compare it. You should compare Europe with South-America or whole North-America.

Not really. The comparison is valid. You can drive to other countires as easily as we can drive to other states. You deal with other countries on a regular basis. Most of the residents of the US do not.

And yes i know where those counties are located.

I'm just thinking comparing continent to continent. Switzerland maybe small but we always make fun of the Austrian (like Americans of Canadians). Everything is smaller in Europe but it's still a continent like North America :)

Yep, I hope to one day be one of those individuals :D
We already are, Marty...we already are. We just need to start earning now...

Cut them some slack, you don't really learn anything until you start highschool anyway. Hell I didn't know much about Stalin until I took world history sophmore year. I don't remember being that stupid two years ago though. If it's not something we use everyday we won't remember it but those seem to be pretty basic things to me. How many adult non biology majors here (without using google or encarta) can tell me what the Sanger Method is and how it's done, how it works in detail?

I can, and I am 16. Does that make me smarter than you guys? Certainly not.

Apparently nothing. Useless fallacies like how the first destination of the Purtian's was Plymouth Rock. And the only reason for the Boston Tea Party was to protest against Britain, not that the cheap tea would have screwed over some of the founding father's source of money

I feel cheated wasting all that time.

That's what I actually mean. Public school sux, they also do in Switzerland, but not like in America :) But I'm done with this thread. :)
