I'm not addicted. The world didn't draw me in psychologically. When I first played Everquest wayy back in high school, it captured me immediately. The world was believable and you felt like you were part of it. WoW makes you feel like you are playing a game, not living in a fantasy world.

I'd like an explanation of why it has 10x as many players as Everquest ever did!

Maybe a better video card then.

It's the cartoonish nature of the graphics.

I didn't find much cartoonish....seemed typical RPG to me. I am an 80's D&D then AD&D player.

Perhaps more imagination is needed though.

I will admit the first few weeks I was wondering WTF, now in my 40 levels I am wondering WTF.

There is a few plateaus in the game for solo characters.

I'm level 165 right now and it's still boring. No point in just leveling up to get better weapons and armor. Of course I play free on a standalone server where the capped level is 255. Tis boring indeed.

WTH would you play a game to level 165 if it's boring?

One of my employees just started playing that game last weekend. He came in the next day and told me how stupid it was. Today he came in and said he was up to level six and added, "God that's a boring game. I have no idea why I'm still playing it."

Does this game come with a free vial of crack or something?

Seriously... WTF?

It's my second attempt at WoW. I tried on the Blizzard servers and I just couldn't get into it. On the private server, they boost everthing up so I was level 50+ in less than a couple of hours (with the help of a friend). I don't know why I keep on playing it! I haven't touched it in a couple days though. Maybe after finals and I'm on winter break.

The draw is the fair play, the community, the challenge and the economy... you skipped out on all the things that make it fun and act  that you're not having fun... ?

There's also a community called life that I find a LOT more fascinating. But to each his own. I didn't give it a fair chance, but then again, maybe that's a good thing. Reminds me of a friend's roommate in college. EQ from 4pm - 6am. Took a break only to eat a whole pizza by himself. At least he showered.

Exactly why I quit after the 10-day trial. It really didn't catch my attention. The monthly fee was unpersuasive as well ;)

Instead, I ended up with a some virtual rare sword with +22 Strength that I'll never even see again because I canceled my account. Grr.

Exactly why I'm thinking of ending my gaming addiction.

You guys need to get to level 60, which honestly doesn't take that long, and then do the raids and instances. I think the heart of the game is doing the 40 people instances with a good guild. That's where all the fun and addiction comes in. If you just play 10 levels, you don't even experience a fraction of what WoW was meant to be.

Tell me what the population of the private server is on average. Around 5 people? The max that I've seen in a private server was 40 on at the same time in the whole world. (Plus privates = laggy)

I didn't say play 15 hours a day, I said play on a real server.

That guy obviously had a problem. Just like someone who watches too much TV or eats too much. It's amazing how aversive most people are to taking personal responsibility. You people blaming video games for being addictive are no different than people blaming them for violence among kids.

I can't believe people still bitch about the monthly fee. That's ridiculous. You'd better cancel your HBO and Cinemax, too. I mean gosh - they charge a monthly fee for you to enjoy their services, too! Oh, the humanity! And your cell phone. You already paid for the phone so why should you have to still pay a monthly fee?! It's just not fair - waaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

raiding sucks and i don't think that it was meant to be the heart of WoW, but it sure did turn out that way. The most fun is from 1-60. after that, forget it.

the journey from 1-60 was the funnest part of the game for me. hardcore daily raiding isn't my thing. maybe i'll give pvp more of a try now that casual guys can get grandmarshal gear. :)

I got lucky and found a casual gamer raiding guild on my server. I used to hate the idea of raiding but now it isn't so bad. I go when I can and leave if I need to leave. No big deal.

14 hours of EQ? Did he sleep??

I KNOW Everquest.. and Linege.. and played D2 and Wow..

I KNOW that you did not really play the game yet.. do not waste you money if you are going back to the game... or do not ruin your life going back to it ever!

Stupid.

It costs $15 a month. That's less than seeing two movies. I find it strange that people complain about paying for a game that they'd spend hours and hours playing, but will have a collection of 1000 DVDs that cost $20 each.

Yeah.. . talkin about the productive in a life.. but people have different interests.. !
