Well, we hadnt really been planning AGAINST it much. We've talked about it many times and this is something she has wanted very much. She has been in tears quite a few times because she felt that she was never going to have a baby. So lately ive been doing the very unreliable pull out method because i wasnt extremely concerned if she got pregnant. I was still blindsided to say the least. It wasnt something that I expected nor wanted to hear this particular weekend. I think the shock is getting to me more than anything.

I just cant seem to grasp the concept of being a father to a child. I have a decent job as the IT manager of a large resort but I still am concerned about the financial situation since we are accustomed to having her income as well.

How old are you guys?

And oh yeah, not to make life harder for you at the moment but there are two types of Dads. Those who put their own needs above their kids needs, and those who put the kids needs above their own needs.

Hope you're the latter, if not you'll be hating life and missing out on a lot.

I'm 29 with a 9 year old son, I have full custody. At his age it's great because we can sit and play Madden, or go camping on a minutes notice. I had him playing Unreal GOTY edition when he was 5. Hearing "HEADSHOT" for the first time while he played was awesome, I rank it up there with him taking his first steps ;).

Seriously though, unless you're uber set money wise, which it doesn't sound like as you're worried about losing one income, then start giving things up in your life that you don't NEED, and yes, a new video card is something you don't NEED.

You've been given a wonderful gift dude, though I'm speaking of you having to sacrifice that should not get you down in any way because you will more than make up for it in other ways by watching him or her grow up.

Well, I'm not hurting by any means, and we dont really buy anything that we dont need. I spend maybe $1000 a year on pc stuff but other than that I am pretty low maintenance. I am however concerned about losing her income and losing even more money due to the child.

I would never put my own needs over that of the child. And on the bright side, most of the toys he/she will want when older is the same kind of stuff I want so it will be a win win

Me: Go ask your mom for xxxx game and I'll ask for xxxxx that way we get both of the ones you want

Kid: She'll never know what pwnt her.

:D

Disclaimer: I a making light of the situatioion because i really dont know how else to handle it

i wasn't, but after i read the other responses, i guess "swallowed a watermelon seed" = got pregnant.

you couldn't just say "i just found out my wife got pregnant"?

does "hide the salami" = "sexual intercourse?"

EDIT: I know that you weren't totally against the idea of having a kid but I laughed when I read your method of protection was the pullout method :D

Yep, the good old "pullout" is at it again.

Sex is like basketball...you dribble before you shoot.

Something to ponder for the afternoon.

1. Congrats!
2. Learn to love living with no sleep.
3. Start buying diapers, now. Look for deals.
4. Get rid of all of the rope you have. If you don't, later on you'll be looking to hang yourself with it.
5. It gets easier after the first 2 or 3 months. I hope.

I'm totally serious about it too. We sat down and calculated the per-diaper cost on average for different sizes/amounts/brands, and then started shopping around. When I see a really good deal, we grab what we can. The space under the crib is crammed with packages of stage 3 and 4 diapers, even though she's only 10 weeks old and still using stage 2 diapers.

We've also stocked up on clothing, mostly thanks to the local grandma and great-grandma, who both have a thing for daily window shopping. She's got clothing enough to last until she's 3 ;)

For my sister's baby shower, I bought her 3 months supply and some big ticket items.

Seriously, diapers are a must.

The wife wanted a kid and I was really not for nor against it, so i figured that was good as protection as any. I had a whole box of condoms right beside the bed, just decided not to use them. I was fully aware that it was very risky to do this, but like i said, i didnt really care either way

Aren't you worried that you didn't allow the best adapted sperm to get to the head of the pack? You artificially limited the selection that would otherwise have occured.

j/k btw :p
