I wasn't expecting any fruit for 2 years, but I'll be damned, the tree is going to have about 15 apples on it unless I decide to trim a few off.

Its a dwarf McIntosh...

:)

It would be a good idea to pinch off all the fruit buds now. When a tree fruits, it depletes all the sugar stores from the root system. Since you planted this year, I suggest pinching them off before they are full fruits - it will encourage a healthier root system for this winter, then next summer you will have a much better crop. Then next year after it forms fruit buds, pinch them off to only 2 per cluster for bigger fruits.

I have had apple trees in the past along with a couple of pear trees...cut those buds!!!! the tree is still not mature enough, it needs 7 years to fully mature and grow full size apples...anything you get now are going to grow apricot sized and fall off...its better to let the tree develope a good root system first...pinch em off!

I might pinch off all but 6 or so... I don't imagine a few would drain the tree too much. To be honest, I am more worried about the weight of the apples.

It will probably abort most of them before they develop very far because it's going to concentrate its energy on growing roots. My guess is that you'll probably get 2 or 3 actual fruits.
