I picked an Engagement Ring

Side stones are too much and pink diamond = crap. If you plan buying a real diamond make the investment worthwhile (4c's) otherwise try your luck at the quarter machine in your local Walmart.

Lol... it's a pink sapphire. It's not really an engagement ring. I am going to use it for that purpose, but that's not the category it's under.

Well then, it's not really an engagement.

The pink stone is not a diamond. As for your 4k idea ... get real.

A 1-2k ring is fine. I prefer platinum set though.

I seems like a sort-of-ok ring, but you really need a white diamond for people to see it as an engagment ring. Of course, if it were up to me, and I had a spouse who was cool with it, I would get a fire opal and electrum ring.

4k idea, my ass. Bought the woman a 1.5k ring and have offers from others to purchase it at over 6k. If you shop right, you invest right.

$1500 is my max. I can get a platinum set and a decent diamond with 1500?

It really depends on what his base income is. I also think platinum is the better metal.

Hell if all you want is a platinum set, 1-2k for a top notch diamond is not a problem. Just look around. Setting does not equal band material.

Yes, as long as your not obsessed with 'bling'. Just make sure to shop around, and keep in mind the 4c's, with carrot being the LEAST important.

Give the guy a break, he's working on a budget. Who really cares if the center stone is a diamond? If his fiancee-to-be likes it, that's all that matters

For $1500 you can easily purchase a near top notch cut, clarity, ~.5k diamond set in white gold.

My income is low. I'm a college student ATM. I make a significant amount of my money playing poker. LOL. We wont be getting married until a little over a year, hopefully.

A good pink diamond is worth many times a comparable white diamond.

And the crap is OP was looking at is worth not a ****** dime.

Minendo. 4k is 4 karat. Not $4,000. When you said 4c, that is incorrect.

What I was saying is that a 1-2 karat diamond is perfect, platinum set of course.

It's a nice ring, but the price isn't super-duper. Also, it depends on what his spouse thinks. And if your going different, a pink saphire isn't really a great choice. It's like different, but not really. Go with a really unusual stone, like emerald, or fire opal, or, even more different, go with channel set stones.

4c = cut, clarity, color, carat
