Currently me and my wife pay around $95 (combined) for two cell phones with the $5 / 200 text messages per phone. No data plan at all and we both have BlackJack II's. We are with AT&T. We would like to move over to iphones asap but wanted to see what our rate would jump up to if we both got an iphone.

Is there any type of family share plan for both voice and data for the iphones? How much would we both spend per month on this (including $5 per phone for text messaging)?
 
I have 2 iphones on a family share plan, 200 txt on only one of the phones, and the data plan for each, and it's 160ish a month after taxes and fees.
 
iPhone's with AT&T, base minute plan of I believe 400 minutes, base text plan of 200 texts. Base costs are $75 per phone (for the two year contract) with this plan. + taxes my initial bill was $145, but I think that was prorated.. checking the website now.

Edit: Hmm. I was wrong. I just checked the bill, here is the outline for the base plans. Neither of our phones are primary phones used for voice/text. Just used for data/iPhone apps. Appears the additional cost was from the initial month activation, seems the plans with just the basic phone/text service is very cheap. $30 for the data, $5 for the base text messaging - 450 anytime minutes, 5000 nights and weekends.

I tried to do this with the iphone as well (like a family share thing) but I was told that it's not possible with the iphone and data services.
 
I'm looking into the Meizu M8 (iPhone-clone sort of thing). That would let you put it on a more "traditional" plan, and it looks pretty damn good.
 
bare minimum voice plan would be $40 a/month for 450 minutes plus $10 for a 2nd line.

2 Iphone data plans would be $60 ($30 each)

2 Txt Msg plans would $10 (200 msgs)

that would $110 a /month plus taxes/fees...is 450 minutes enough for both of you?

this includes rollover minutes if that matters...
 
each iphone requires 30$ data plan , and whatever family voice plan you get.

You also need to get any texting seperate, as that insane 30$ data plan does not cover any texts.

Don't get the clones IMO, not worth the hassle..do you really need the data? Just get a first gen and jailbrake it and use it on AT&T or any other network...

I pay 67$ a month for 2 lines on TMobile, with unlimited texting for both phones, unlimited data on my jailbroken iphone, 1000 minutes...that's cheap!

AT&T would be 30$x2 + at least 70$ family plan + whatever texting plan you want....if you can afford that then go for it!

Everyone has one, and yours stinks.

The cost for data plans for US cell carriers is stupid high, and why is SMS not considered data? For that matter why is voice not conidered data? The iPhone should be the VOIPPhone.

Call someone with U.S Cellular to test the boundaries of their "free incoming calls" at the same time.

just get a netbook and use video/voice chat with people on it and pay for a mobile broadband if you gotta have all the features the iphone has

Heh, that would be cool. You could use your cellphone like a baby monitor. Just put it on speaker phone and leave a it in the room and leave it connected.
 
Aren't all dataplans ridiculously expensive? My wife has an iPhone and we have a second line on that account, an LG shine. Our combine bill is $130 for 2 lines, one having unlimited data. I'm just glad that my work pays for my iPhone service, otherwise I'm guessing our bill would be closer to $200..

But I had verizon and a blackberry, and my bill was about the same. it's not limited to the iphone.. unless the industry has changed a lot.

I will admit, I don't typically use my EDGE except every once in a while and I have done over 80MB last month...granted, I only pay $4.99 😀

Well... since they cap their "unlimited" data plan, I'd tend to think they would find something to charge you for if you left the phone line running 24/7.

Is there something underwritten that you typically wouldn't see? I mean what holds people back from sueing over charging them more money then what the unlimited plan costs?
