Yeah sucks eh? It took until final year for me to learn that when I buy a book and get the course-readings for the course I can just photocopy the book and return it within the week at a major savings. I felt totally ripped off by the textbook monopoly at my university.

well, my classes usually make us buy reference books, like the sun book on JSPs and whatnot. Books worth keeping.

I just sell them back to friends. I sell them for less than the bookstore sells used books for & still get more back than the bookstore would give me.
