Cliff notes:
Lawyer is tired of stupid companies claiming to "sell" pieces of celestial bodies.
Claims to own sun and will be charging for its use.
Basically, this is a perfect way for the courts to FINALLY step in and make a ruling to stop these morons.

Yeah..too bad I own the universe and have been charging rent for years now. Does that mean the govt. might stop paying me? The US is the only one retarded enough to keep the money coming!

Lawyers...
Always whining.
"Please, Im not a lawyer, don't hurt me, please!" or "Please don't lock me in the basement, I won't tell anyone I swear."
They're all crazy.

It might not end space real estate sales though. The courts could say that the sun is a natural energy source and thereby protected from individual ownership, which would leave the moon and other celestial bodies open to property ownership still. Or someone else could lay claim to the sun. For example, descendants of the Aztecs, or any sect of Middle Eastern religion that still worships Ra, the Sun God.

I hope the courts don't decide to be such asses that they take one of those routes out.

It does, but you have to look really closely for a few minutes to see it.

I'm not paying him to use the Sun. His Sun is broadcasting in the clear all over my property, if he couldn't even be bothered to to encrypt the Sun then I'm doing nothing wrong by using what he broadcasts. Don't try to argue that I'm violating the DMCA or some other silly law, he should have encrypted the Sun if he didn't want us all to use it.

Now if he did figure out a way to make us subscribe by encrypting the Sun some how, I still wouldn't pay. First of all the uptime is terrible, it goes out every single day and when it's cloudy or rainy the coverage is terrible. Instead of suing people he should put his money towards improving service by increasing uptime, I mean it only works dawn to dusk, what's up with that?

SUE HIS ASS OFF!

He has indeed issued proper warnings.

But you're missing the point. If you do sue him, then you admit that he do own the sun,
...and you owe him a fortune for using it.

What a boring PhD - he's studying extraterrestrial property rights? Gimme a break.

Aren't the real morons the ones who actually BUY this stuff?

Did anyone even read this article?

Ownership involves not only rights, but also responsibilities; however, Mr. Pop declared himself not liable for any damage caused by "his" property in the form of skin cancer, sunstroke, solar flares, etc.
