Heh, that's actually pretty slow for Dell. I was amazed when I ordered my PC at 7am one morning, and when I came back to check at 4:30 the system had be parted, built, tested, boxed, and shipped. Pretty damn efficent if you ask me.

so you got your computer in less than a week?

I ordered thursday night around midnight so it's basically like placing the order friday morning.

I just hope my laptop gets here before friday.... *crosses fingers*

2 days to complete a "boxing" stage seems rather slow to me. If i ordered sunday(dell would recieve the order monday morning) I would expect it by the end of the week at my door.

That's fast, considering my folks' experience. I ordered a Centrino system for them just before this summer and it took over a month to arrive. Plus, it was defective -- random lock-ups. Just got it back in the mail a week or two ago. Soooo... that's almost 4 months to get a working system. Boo, Dell, boo!

boxing means it is being put on a plane from malaysia to dell's depot in dallas. don't worry, it will still take days before it is out of that stage.

oboeguy - you can't compare lead times between different models of notebook

I picked up a camera from Dell yesterday. I up the shipping to overnite because I was hoping to have it by the weekend. I placed the order around 9AM EST.

I check the status of the a few hours later. It tells me its going to ship around the 19th...I'm thinking WTF...oh well

This morning at about 10AM the Airborne guy is bangin on the door...:)

Texas to Cleveland...I was very surprised.:Q

did it actually originate in texas? i guarantee it didn't ship from a warehouse with "Dell" on the front door. probably said "TechData" or another distributor.

I was thinking the same thing. Usually I get stuff from an IM warehouse in PA.

According to the package and packing slip...this one came from Plano, TX.

my 600m I got a month ago took about 2 weeks from order placement to arrival.

Oh and stupid dell didn't give me tracking info for the shipment until after they had already tried first delivery attempt. I had to make special arrangements to be home from work to sign for it because no one else is home during the day.

When I ordered my Inspiron last year it took IIRC eights days from order to arrival. It arrived two days before their estimated ship date.

IBM took 5 months on mine. But I ordered it when the model was first introduced and it was the first laptop that I can think of with a 1600x1200 screen (I got it in 2000). Three separate parts got delayed. First the screens didn't get to IBM. Then the 3Com NIC's ran out. I forget what the third part shortage was. But my computer used all three of the parts that had shortages. :-\ It was well worth the wait though. I <3 my ThinkPad.
