I ordered a 3500+ 90nm and it came severely damaged

I ordered the AMD 3500+ 90nm from ZipZoomFly lastweek. I thought I had a deal from a reputable place, I was wrong. I ordered the 3500+ retail version - the AMD box is severely damaged, the bottom corner is crushed, the top of the box is cracked, the CPU is knocked sideways in the box, and there is a green dust all over the inside of the clear plastic window on the box.

I called ZZF, I got through, and then after 10 minutes I got "disconnected." I tried to call back and no one was answering. I tried 10 minutes later, was on hold for 12 minutes and then was told was BS about it being 3 to 4 weeks to resolve and I should order another one and when they recieve it in 3 to 4 weeks they will issue a refund after they investigate. I polietly asked for a supervisor, and explained my situation. I got some nonsense about it probably being fed ex's fault and they'll contact them this evening. The supervisor said they'd call me tomorrow after they check with FED-EX and him and I will work out what will be done then.

I'm ready to throw up, $294 and I'm waiting in limbo.

You know, this was a gift to myself - The past year has been fairly awful - I don't exactly have this type of money to be spending on a new computer - but I figured I owed it to myself for breaking my rear having to put up with 6 days a week getting up at 4:45am and finally getting to bed around 11-11:30pm and all they other the crap I've dealt with. Basically, this was supposed to a treat to myself and all I get is a monster of a headache. I'm sick right now over this, I really am.

Their packaging is not good. When I received 3 hard drives from them, all of them was packaged with a protective form box but they didn't seal it(besides the form was a bit big for a drive) so the hard drives were out of it.

AMD's packaging isnt the best, out of the dozen or so retail boxes we ordered 90% of the cpu holders came knocked sideways. I wouldnt worry about the green dust, its just the recycled green inner packaging.

Why are you so worried about the box though? If the CPU and heatsink is fine who cares about the box? You still get the 3 year warranty. I can see your point but you should atleast test it out. Was the shipping box crushed at all? If so then its not really ZZF's fault.

I want you do this. Call them, and say exactly what you posted there. If they don't agree to send you a new one, bitch your ass off till they do. Explain that you will tell all your friends never to buy from them, it actually may work. If the person you are bitching at doesn't seem to care, hang up, call back. Not trying to be sexist, but getting a lady may be better then a guy. I've had to deal with a lot of companies, hope this works out for you.

I just got my CPU from ZZF as well, I wouldn't worry about the green dust either. My package was unharmed and it had the green dust too. Like someone else said, it's from the packaging, try the CPU out. If it doesn't work, make a big fuss about it. If it works and (maybe) o/c's well then keep it. I don't like messed up packages either, but sometimes things happen and if the product itself is fine, that'll save a lot of hassle. Good luck. BTW- I also had soem problems with ZZF in the past, although nothign that would stop me from purchasing from them in the future.

Ok, I calmed down quite a bit. Looking at the box - I can't tell if it is fed-ex's fault, but the box looks find to send the product back in.

I saw someone's post about test the chip out first - please note - there is a significant amount of some green dust powdering the inside of the AMD box from what I can see through the clear window on the box. Also, the box sounds like it has broken glass inside it. The corner is crush and the top of the box has a crack in it. The box makes me quite nervous to even test it, there could be unseen damage that may arise late on in the chips life due to the damage of the impact this box looks like it went though.

I spoke to the returns supervisor over at zipzoomfly, he assured me that he would contact me tomorrow and he would work on the arraignments with Fed Ex.

I know zipzoomfly is a reputable place, so I have faith that this will be resolved. I guess I was hoping for an immediate solution, which I should've realized wouldn't be the case since I am in NY and they are in Ca.

I will call them tomorrow, and hopefully this will be resolved in a timely manner. They suggested I order another one in the mean time while the other one is being shipped back and investigated. I'm a bit weary on doing that and having close to $400 in chares for this processor on my credit card.

Like I said, I'll talk to them tomorrow. Maybe it was just a disgruntled Fed Ex employee who mishandled this box or threw it and damaged it.

I'll keep you guys updated.

So the AMD box is damaged but not the box it all came in? Then we can only assume it was put in the box like that or bounced around inside and damaged. Can you see if any pins are bent, I would be tempted to test the cpu as long as it's not physically damaged.

Question: I am looking in the box, I got the cpu to move where I could read the serial number on it: 3500DIK4BI

is that the 3500+ 90nm chip?

i say get your money back and buy a less expencive chip and overclock it to 3500 speeds, then buy something else, like better grafix card or more RAM or have a party etc. Maybe something tothink about when you upgrade next?

Like I said dont worry about the dust, every retail package has this on the clear support packaging. The Chip itself is packed within its own plastic case with foam insert behind it. I would find it very hard to crush the chip through both packages. If all lese fails have them credit you a fair amount $25-35. That way you can get installing and be happy at the same time. let us know how you make out, Im sure everything will turn out fine.

Sorry to hear about your problem. I ordered a 3200 90nm from them last week also but it arrived in excellent condition. I would not take a chance and send it back. That chip you got (3500DIK4BI) is the 90nm winchester core. Good luck!

Tough luck bro, ZZF has always been good to me. FedEx may have jammed your box or something. Let us know how this works out.

At least try and firre her up! She may be a golden ship! You never know until you tried. I used to get P4 chips from Outpost, and I would pray they had bent pins becuase they overclocked better! ;)

lol i remember those days...

when you and thugs would compare who got more bent pins... and then those chips would overclock like beasts!

I wouldnt wait myself. I don't see how a CPU could get damaged during shipment unless the pins get bent. Either it will post or it won't if it does then your good to go and I don't think any problems will come up on down the road unless your a careless o/cer.

If the pins are not bent then it should work just fine...just use the CPU.

Personally I will never buy from ZZF again after buying a Soltek mobo from them years ago...RMAing was a pain and ruined any savings I got.

All this over a crushed box? That's what the box is there for... to protect the contents of the box. Besides... the carrier is the one responsible for damaging it, I seriously doubt it left ZZF in that condition.
