i have 2 systems so i tried swapping parts:

the CPU on the back system in brand new 1300 mhz duron (just opened the box today), so that cant be the problem
I test the video and sound (like sound matters ;) ) on my current system, both work
the mobo is a Iwill KK266 and the light goes on so it seems to be working
the psu is fine as the fans and the cdrw/dvd rom powers
cdrw and dvd rom are fine

now the HDD, it is the infamous DeathStar 40 gb. i put it in my current system, the system booted up but it said windows must shut down to prevent damage to the harddrive, check for viruses. now i was sure this was the problem but to double check, i put the HDD that i'm using right at this second in the back up system and i still got the blank screen. the only thing i havent tested is the ram cuz i cant switch ddr and SDRAM. any suggestions???

Reseat the CPU/RAM

That's normally where a blank screen occurs...

Could be DOA, but that's doubtful.

Was building a p4 system and was getting a blank screen, all fans cd-roms etc powered up...

Reseated video and what not, still no go.. Went to the CPU/RAM..

Booted right up.

Well, take the HSF off, take the CPU out of the socket and re seat it... The P4 looked as it was sitting perfectly fine, sure enough i reset it and it was fine.

Worth a shot.

Try 1 stick of ram at a time, in different slots.
