I/O Magic webcam for $14.99 after $25 instant rebate at OfficeMax

MaxDSP

Just bought the camera for $16.23 total and will see how it works in a day or two. Regular price is $39.99, so it seems like a pretty good deal for a decent webcam.

Product at OM Online

The above link may not work, so just search for I/O Magic PC Web Camera

It seems like 2 or 3 times a year webcams go on sale for free after rebate. I got one at Staples for free after rebate a week or two ago. Staples has one right now for $4.94 after rebate (click here to get it). Of course, your deal does not require a mail-in rebate, which is a big plus for some. So, good find for those who don't like rebates.

Edit: According to this thread Best Buy will have an IBM Net Camera available for free after rebate next week. I assume it's this model, which looks like a decent enough webcam for free after MIR.

Nice find. Anyone have personal opinions of the 2 or 3 webcams mentioned? I'd like to get one, but I have no idea what to look for in a webcam 😛

i'll tell you right now i got the veo stingray (@ staples) and the ibm netcam (@bestbuy). They perform almost exactly the same, in fact the software interface is the same except for the "IBM" branding on it. IMHO, the real difference in webcams is between CMOS and CCD sensors, with the latter being FAR superior to the former. I say go for whichever is the cheapest out-of-pocket. If anyone wants to buy my veo, i'm selling it for $10bux!! 😉

EDIT: Okay, when i say perform better, i mean a 'cleaner' and more responsive picture, in addition the CCD cameras get better FPS as well so you don't see the 'ghosting' and 'jerkiness'

Don't buy the I/O Magic JUNK! I bought it once because it was free after rebate. I can safely say that I won't use it even if the company gives it to me with money in my pocket! IBM, Kodak or Intel are the best of the breed. If you really want people to see your face, use one of these.
