My sis brought her old Sony VAIO over for me to fix (p1 200mhz). I decided to format it but whenever I try to boot froma disk or windows' cd, it says theres an I/O error? I have no idea what this is and have never encountered it before... How do I fix this so I can format her comp?

Watch the bumps guy... 😉

Anyway what was wrong with the laptop before you formatted it? Maybe the CD drive is broken?

lol 😛

actually its a desktop. Well windows would load up but then I can't access the start bar or anything.

ahhh... desktop... sorry about that. 🙂 did you try opening the case? maybe some of the connections are loose... 😕

I really doubt that this pc is capable of booting from CD.

What other 'disk' are you trying to boot with? I'm thinking that you either have the wrong boot disk or maybe the floppy drive is fubar.
