I/O and Memory Ranges conflicts, complicated

sup guys
I have recently bought a A7V8X-X (KT400) and an Athlon XP 2000+ TB "A", cuz my previous CPU died and I decided to buy a new mobo also.

I installed it, everything went ok, installed winxp on a previously formatted 80gb seagate HD. But, when I was configuring my devices, I got vgasave instead of my asus v7700 geforce 2 gts 64mb video card. I thought it was just a minor issue, but it turned out to be more complicated than I thought.

My PC was set to ACPI uniprocessor PC, then I set it to Standard PC to see if I could handle the I/O and memory, but windows still doesn't let me do that. I've tried everything. reinstalling, via 4-in-1, windows 2k, everything failed.

I really need ur help guys. here's a screenshot:

thanks in advance

What-all PCI devices do you have, if any, and which PCI slots are they in? Did you install the VIA 4-in-1's before installing the drivers for the video card itself (yes = good)?

Yes, I installed VIA 4-in-1 before installing my vid card drivers and also before, no good. But it isn't really "before" because winxp already has a default driver for everything and the conflict already exists with them, so I don't really know if that's the main focus of the problem.

I don't have any PCI cards installed. I removed them when the problem ocurred, and then reinstalled winxp several times (and win2k also) without them plugged in. They were a creative sb live! mp3+ and a 3com 3C905-TX 100/10 network card.

I tried to install XP without ACPI (just pressing F5 in the "press f6 if you have any raid/scsi devices" screen), tried to disable plug and play os in the bios, switch to PIC in the BIOS (APIC or PIC option, not ACPI) and no good. This is driving me crazy...

Remind me again, what happens if you run the nVidia Detonator driver package?

The display adapter gets a yellow "!" in the device manager, and in the properties it says: "this device couldn't start (code 10)". and the resources are blank, there's just this message: "this device isn't using any resources because it has a problem".

but if I got to display > advanced > adapter, i get vgasave and the resources show that there is a conflict in the adresses I have said before.

If I leave window's drivers for my video card, there's no yellow "!" in the device manager and vgasave doesn't show any conflicts (doesn't show the resource window either), but I still get vgasave instead of my card in display settings.

Interesting problem, try a PCI video card and see what happens, one on win2k HCL preferably. Work backwards, it may take a lot of time but start with win2k (do a low level format) and just the pci card to see what you get.

that already crossed my mind, but I don't have a PCI card here, so I couldn't test that yet. in fact, im waiting for another vid card to test from a friend, so there's hope =P I just can't see how this could have happened. those adresses "belong", by default, to the vid card. there's no way via or asus would release a malfunctioning chip/motherboard. I'll try to reset everything to default, do low level formats and see where this goes...

Try clearing the NVRAM and then load the optimized defaults in the bios, then install windows.

nvram?

I was thinking the same thing as Saboya. Basically, he is saying to clear out the BIOS, then load optimal values, and then try again.

Yep... clear it with the jumper... make sure you read the mbd manual on how to do this correctly.

great news here, I got it working :))))

first, I tried a Riva TNT2 M64 32mb that I found laying around here. It worked perfectly, no problems. I was almost giving up on my gf2 gts when a friend of mine (that knows a lot more about pcs than i do) started to have some ideas, then he told me to update my vid card's bios, I told him I already had, but he found me a newer one and modified it for me.

it worked fine :) I couldn't believe it.

skulls, check for the last bios for ur video card, it may solve ur problems. just be sure to check it's the correct one or ask someone to modify an existing bios for you.

i hope u can solve the problem as well.

thanks to everybody that helped here :)
