I now have TOTAL SYSTEM STABILITY!!!

All it took was:

-increasing the speed of my cpu fan to 3000 rpm. Now sounds like I am sitting next to a small aeroplane.**
-removing a dodgy 512 meg RAM card. I now am running on 512 only. Haven't noticed any slow downs with only half the memory.

No more crashes for me! 🙂

**the system was over heating when I was encoding my mpeg television shows into xvid.

You mean, dimm?

I've had total stability for a couple of years now thanks to building with the last good intel platform: 3.2C Northwood, i875 chipset ASUS P4C800-E, stock speed.

I recommend A64 now of course since intel P4E is slow and hot by comparison, but back in late 2003 intel made good stuff.

Yep. I have a 2.8 Northwood on the 875 chipset. It's a little Shuttle XPC, but it's pretty damn stable.

Not because of overheating or bad RAM.

+50% Mac members for this topic! 😀

WTF is a 'ram card'?

Oh, and you think 3000 rpm is high? You need a 60mm 7000 RPM Delta Screamer. Black Label specificly.
