I now have $168 of credit card debt

Why do so many people type "a" when they mean "I"?

such a strange typo.

You mean something like:

I feel a need to celebrate

vs

I feel that I need to celebrate

I figure it's a result of trying to choose which one to write and end up writing both in the same sentence "I feel that a need to celebrate"

You're a rarity on ATOT, and should be ashamed of your $168 of debt. As a rule, ATOT people are so financially responsible that most credit card companies actually owe THEM money.

Grats.
I have paid off a shit ton over the last few months too.
Nowhere near that much in that amount of time though.

hmm...that is a very logical explanation heh.

Congrats, that's great!
I paid down 10K between 2008-2009, I had accumulated it after I bought my new house before I sold my old place. Since then, in 2010, I've refinished my basement rec room into a home theater, and put a bunch of new debt on the card from buying too much too quickly (I wanted projector and furniture, etc and didn't want to wait!)
So, now I'm paying down a 6K balance ... hehehe .... Ohh well, I'll have it paid off this year...

Congrats!

Now pay off the rest, then celebrate with an *inexpensive* gift to yourself.

Congrats OP. I recently paid off my credit cards as well so I know how good the feeling is. Now you should promise yourself not to buy things you don't have the cash for. That weighed down feeling of debt isn't something I want to experience again.

Just don't buy that video card you think you need.

P.S. Don't visit the Hot Deals forum. Ever.

No kidding, that and For Sale/Trade. I had to buy some stuff for work there and now the packages are rolling in to my home as well 🙁

Was about 25k in debt two years ago. Got it down to 6k. Should be gone by this time next year.
Never again. Lesson learned. I hate the feeling of owing banks money.
Half of my debt was for trying a shot at running my own business. The rest was living off cc's, stupid shit and great lapses in judgement.
I hope a great deal of people can turn this generation around. It changed my thinking entirely.

I wish i was debt free. Should be in 4 years LOL.

I have a 4 year personal loan for $12,500
4 years left on my SUV
But only $380 on my CC

Well plus my mortgage. Only coming up on 1 year as a new home owner. So long ways to go on that. But i try not to lump it into the other debts.

Actually describes me. Discover gives me $50 credit every 1-2 months depending on how much i use the card.

USAA MasterCard does it annually, early December, sort of like an xmas bonus, usually in the $200 range.

And I haven't paid an interest charge since probably 2005 or 2006. Did have one late payment in 2009 cuz I screwed up, but oh well.

Overall, using CC cards wisely kicks ass. I have a nice buffer in my budget, and have a 808 credit score without even trying.

Have $5500 cc debt, but interest free until Jan 2011. My first time carrying balance month to month in my life. Will be paid off before interest will hit me, until then, paying $500 a month and stashing the rest to savings.

Total interest paid to cc in my life = $0

Isn't it funny how the social section of AT belittles and excoriates people for having debt, and the rest of the AT forums tempt them to buy shit 😀

Once I had about $200K interest-free credit card dept earning ~5% APY in various saving accounts. Those were the days. 🙂

heh, I always wanted to try something like that, but seems too risky.

Most "Free Interest for a Year" offers I see are on purchases only, and slap huge fees on transfers or cash advances.
