thats great because the GRE doesnt test you on any college level material...

Also, if you are interested in science, engineering, or math topics, getting anything less than a 780 on the quantitative section is poor.

not all schools do. Its just a way to make sure that the entering students are morons. If you do not score higher than 780 on the math section, they weed you out if you want to get into science/engineering/applied math. If you score less than ~700 on the verbal section, they weed you out if you are interested in liberal arts.

:Q

Are they really that picky? They cant really be turning down that many people? I mean, if my mediocre score was better than half of the people who take the test... wtf. 😕

Its supposed to be a test of reasoning/analysis. The theory goes that this stuff should be basic to you by now, and those who do significantly better than others are those who have better analytical powers. Which is probably true to a degree...knowing the vocabulary is only going to help you so much if you don't know what to do with them.

And regardless of it's actual relevance to college material, there is a significant correlation between gre scores and success in grad school, and that alone justifies it's existence.

For that matter, why IS an undergrad degree a requirement for a more specific (grad school) education? I mean, when you go to a doctor, you dont care if he studied english for 4 years when he was a teenager, do you? You care about the medical education he got after.

I do care that he be well-spoken enough to tell me what is wrong with me and to have the knowledge of biology, chemistry, and anatomy that is taught at the undergraduate level as a basis for later studies.

I think an undergrad degree also shows a grad school or prospective employer that you can commit to and complete a long-term goal.

I just took the LSAT practice test and got a 150 on a scale of 120-180. Mediocre again. But hey, at least im mediocre enough to make it into a law school. 😛
