Gate agents at airports have to deal with. I mean I knew there was some but not this much. Having taken an $800 voucher for a 1.5 hour later flight I've been sitting near the desk by the gate. So far the delta gate agents have been at fault for:
baggage drop cut off times at checkin
Storm delays
People not sitting next to each other (and not reseating passengers so they could sit next to each other)
Not having seats available for upgrade
Not knowing where an American Airlines flight is departing from
And people were quite rude about all of those

I also noticed only about 1 in 3 say hello in response to the gate agents greeting

1) People are scum

2) Being in an airport is a soul-crushing exercise in frustration and even the people who are not scum are going to be edgy, cranky and possibly homicidal.

They are just people doing their job.

Amazing people think they have anything to do with seat assignments.

Edit. Ok I read the before I drank my coffee for the day because I thought this was about TSA agents. Fuck I am an idiot,

Each rude person is a possible terrorist. I'm flagging them all for anal probes if I'm the baggage checker.

People in customer service positions take a lot of abuse. Sometimes, customers are just having a bad day, but some people are just rotten to the core.

Due to equipment problems on Thursday evening, I was going to miss a connection in ORD. I was booked on another flight, and it also had taken off by the time we ran from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 (probably half a mile away).

I approached four gate agents who were standing at a gate desk. There were no passengers at the gate. One of the women yelled at me, "We're closing out a flight. Get help somewhere else." We weren't sure where this "help" might be. While she could have been helpful and yelled to me where this "help" might be located, she didn't... and I didn't bother to ask her (or any of the other three standing around her).

The awesome thing about airports these days is that they're just a bunch of empty gate desks. There are no people to help you. When one of the gate agents was able to help us, he directed us to the "customer service center across from Gate 10". It took us a while to realize that he meant the red phone across from Gate 10 (that's the "customer service center").

We ended up running about half a mile back to Terminal 1 to a gate that was about 40 meters from where we had started.

Thanks gate agents!

The biggest problem with gate agents is the lack of information they possess. Worse, their complacency with their lack of knowledge is extremely irritating. They don't know why a flight is late. They don't know approximately how late it is. They have no ability to contact anyone who might she'd some light on the problem. They only reassure you over and over and over and over again that they will tell you as soon as they 'hear something.' I understand they're on the bottom of the list for information, I just want them to be honest about it.

$800 voucher is solid - what airline? Highest I've seen is 5 or 600 on Jetblue - didn't take it though.

More rotten than bad days, but in the bay area they use managers and coworkers to simulate treating an employee like shit.

I spent many years in customer service and if this is what their normal day its farther up the list of 'worst customer service jobs' than I thought.

Pft you knew I was going to be down there and you never offered to drive numerous hours each way to visit :disrelieved:

Delta. I think they were having some disruptions due to weather as there were quite a few voucher and standby stories that day. Another lady was on my plane because she was given $1000 to go to Burlington through Detroit on Saturday instead of Friday. Might be ATL issues though as they were offering $600 vouchers for my flight down a week earlier. Didn't workout with my work schedule though but does make me consider routing through ATL if my schedule is flexible.

STORY TIME!

The reason my neighbor is retired is NOT because she's old.
She worked at Delta for many years. One day an angry customer shoved her. She fell down and messed up her back. Guy had to pay her medical expenses, a shitload of fines, got banned from Delta, got banned from Dulles airport.

That was 1998.
If it had been after the terrorist attacks they probably would have shot him dead.

Like anyone here has never been rude to someone before? I hope this isn't another hypocrite of the day thread.
