yep, apparently i've finally fallen for stupid-ass trendy texas hold 'em. i've actually been playing it in red dead redemption on my 360- pretty standard rules similar to web-based games, just put inside of a typical rockstar [multiplayer] sandbox (and RDR is basically their first good one, GTAIV being more of a demo).
i've played the game, seen it on TV, ect, but i always thought playing it against faceless opponents was retarded...but in fact, playing said opponents, even if they suck, has clued me into all the intricate little details of the game that come purely from the mechanics of play. it seems silly, but i had always thought 'tells' were, you know...facial expressions, nervous ticks, or whatever they use in hollywood. but a lot of people have tells just in their style of betting; betting large before the flop implied strong hole cards, betting large at the turn implies you may have just made a strong hand, ect. and it all depends upon what's on the table, the best hand you know your opponent can make, the likelihood, et al. and then you can find people that will counter common sense just to confuse...it all becomes a mix of quick thinking and cunning prediction of your opponent.
anyway, i like it. i certainly underwrote it on an intellectual level based upon its popularity.
anyone participate in local games or anything? i'd like to try and build my chops against some real, probably more challenging opponents...but more for fun than high stakes.
edit: also i wish omaha hold 'em was more popular.
