I need to understand LAN card size!

Hi, two days back my motherboard's Ethernet port got dead, due to a bloody lightning/thunderstorm! It's a Sabertooth X58 board. I don't know what was the in built LAN card!

Anyway, I'm in market to buy one, buy I'm confused about size. I have GTX970 installed on my PCIEX16_1 slot, and the bloody big card occupies huge amount of space, so basically the slots above and below it are totally unusable, the top being PCIEX1_1 (small black one), and the bottom being labelled as PCI1 (bigger white one, without any lock clip), so those two slots are blocked, and even the PCIEX16_2 slot is almost blocked, I never did care about SLI anyway, so never bothered.

So the only two slots which are actually left to install something are the PCIEX1_2 (the small black one again) and the PCIEX16_3 (the big black one with lock clip), but even then the bottom one touches my PSU, LOL. I have a small cabinet by the way, CM 690II Plus. So is there any LAN card which will fit in that small PCIEX1_2 slot?

Yeah, sticking it in PCEEX1_2 will work fine. A Gigabit NIC only needs an x1 PCIe link to function, so you can use it in whatever PCIe slot works best.

Honestly, for 99% of home use, any 100mbit or gbit ethernet card will meet all your needs.
PCI express ethernet is going to be the most modern/cutting edge with the best bandwidth and lowwest latency, but, you could use a USB Ethernet adapter if you wanted to.... (might be easier/cheaper for you)

Thanks mate, no need to think about quality then, which is always a worry for me when I go for non-original vendors.

I actually linked the normal LAN version in my original post (the same one you linked), and for my last post I meant that WiFi one only, I am asking what's the difference between those two, the LAN only version and the one which comes with WiFi additionally? I mean other than having WiFi on my desktop is there any other difference between the two?

It ONLY has wifi, it doesn't have BOTH ethernet AND wifi.

If you need ethernet, get the ethernet one.
