I need to test my download speeds

Can anyone link to a BIG file on a good server connection.

I ran acouple test and got this:

Download Speed: 14169 kbps (1771.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 348 kbps (43.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

WTF! We just moved to a new house and this is the results of the new cable modem they just installed. The old one from the old neighborhood only ran @ 400-500KB/sec transfer rate max

I have it, you actually dont download that fast, its still 500-800kb or so.

Hmm, when i try to download a file i only get 50KB :/ from download.com

capped, try a larger file from a better server....cant think of any off hand

those numbers sound like a verizon FIOS connection. Mine is capped at download 15780 kpbs upload 2930 kpbs

funny thing it starts @ 400KB than goes up to 1500KB than back down to 750KB-ish

Im also downloading something else currently, so ill check back later when im not downloading anything. I think most people out here still have AOL dial up or something. In my old city alot of people had Cable, so i dunno.

950KB= download speed from there with 78MB dl'ed.
I know it should be more if the cable w3sn't split up using splitters, but its still good enough for me.

Some companies, like Comcast, give you a burst of speed when you download a large file. It only lasts a short while, then drops back to whatever the limit is. Some people report the same things you have because of this.

I get 2000-2500 KBps from that server for the full 100 megs with comcast 6 meg service
