Why is it that every single console generation people proclaim the end of, not only PC gaming, but the end of the PC entirely? I've heard so many statements these last few days about how the Xbox 360 and PS3 will stomp my PC, and all its games will look better, etc, etc, etc. I heard it all in the xbox 1 and PS2 days as well, and I'm certain a lot of people heard it in the N64 and PS1 days too.

By the time your oh so 'uber l33t' Xbox 360s and PS3 actually hit the market in volume, I'll be running a PC boasting even more processing power. Its a never ending game of leap frog.

Of course the PC will never go away, same can be said for PC gaming. They're just saying that the gap between console gaming and PC gaming, once HUGE, is closing. Get over it.

People who say next-gen consoles will be the end of PC gaming are as stupid as people who think PCs are better for gaming. Yes you can play games on a PC. Yes you can do some PC-type things on a console. But they serve different purposes.

The gaming is different on console and pc.

Console you can get 4-8 people and play some games together in the same room. Pc you can't do that unless you setup a network or go to a lan party etc.

also PC gaming != console gaming.

you can't play mmo's like you can on the PC's on the consoles. Yes there's ffxi and phantasy star online, but it doesn't feel the same. likewise for FPS's

Gaming on your desk, w/ everything in front of you on your EZ chair is a different environment compared to console gaming where you're on your couch looking @ the TV

It's the constant struggle for power. Whenever a new console is released people say the PC is dead or dying. Winthin a few years the PC manages to surpass the console and then the console starts to look old. PC's are ever changing while consoles are static.

Also, the majority of every inovation in regards to gaming has took place on the PC. Multiplayer, MMORPG's, FPS, Strategy, Role Playing, Voice, Team or Squad Based, and many many other gaming inovations have took place on the PC before they became common on the consoles. The next big thing will of course probably happen on the PC as well and it too will migrate to the consoles.

Remember a few years ago when Sony was bragging that the PC was finished as a gaming device? Did it happen? The PS2 was suspossed to be the gateway to the internet. Ha, yea right. It's all hype.

Because people are stupid. A new console matches a great system when it comes out. A year later it's no better but a great system is. Then by the end of its life it looks like ass. Look at the best the Xbox has to offer now, for instance...a game like Halo 2. Its graphics are dated beyond hell when you compare them to a game like Far Cry or Half Life 2. It can't even pretend to look as good because it's running on almost four year old hardware.

I don't get why some nerds get so passionate about consoles. Arguments of xbox versus PS are as old as the hills and so is the PC vs. console argument.

I say keep your PC and buy both an Xbox360 and a PS3.

It is annoying, isn't it. The funny thing is the same people that will drool all over a video of Battlefield 2 will be the same ones saying the pc is dead the second they see some video of possible gameplay on a new system. Yup, PC is dead, it is just home to some of the most competitive gaming ever.

Doom3,HalfLife 2,MOHA,World of Warcraft,EQ2...and after that.......what came out??

Plz tell me because i just dont remember if any other AAA title came ou for pc last year...

Well, i think console gaming is atleast catching up with PC gaming in two respects. One, the proliferation of online gaming, once soley the territory of PCs. Second, this is the first time consoles will be released with significantly more power that the average or even high-end gaming computer. PLus, the manufacturers can max out the hardware (always a plus with consoles) Even though i'm sure the PC will surpass the consoles graphicially during their life-span, i think the gap will difently close in the next few years. I think the biggest issue is developer choice. It used to be they ported PC games to consoles. If they see more profit in the console community, it could get more attention.

So you listed some of the big named games that hit in December and that want to know what occured after that? UH ALL THE BIG GAMES HIT IN DECEMBER, DUH. Go read the 100000s of discussions about how this is a bad industry trend that every game developer feels they need to release their game in the coming months before christmas.
