I need to MOD my cheap case to keep it cool !

I was going to cut some designs in my case panels and use something like Nylon or Screen to cover it, my case is super hot and I just bought a new Video card and I don't want to spent alot.

I have the side panel off now it's helps alot but it will get to dusty.

what I have done is put a fan in the removable side panel (with filter if you like) blowing in, so that the video card and processor are getting cool, fresh air. if you are looking for a quick, easy fix, that would be what i would recommend. a single hole: $0, a single 80 or 120 mm fan: <$5. a filter made from a fabric softener sheet or a piece of nylon stocking: almost $0.

No offense but I would of bought a case that had a lot of fans already installed so you wouldn't of had to mod your case. Just my opinion tho....

I believe Home Depot has a Dremel tool on sale at $29.99, down $20 from the orginal price of $49.99. Use that to cut away!

How about this cut a hole in one side for intake and another in the other side for outtake?

If you are talking about the sides of the case, not the front and back, then thats a no no.

The mobo will be totally blocking the right hole

Those are two fan grills you can buy for $4 US.

I'm a bit of a nut. I bought a fan grill and decided to use a metal cutting blade to cut a hole in my case and put the fan grill over it later.

Anyway, I bought a fan grill for $5 CDN at futureshop and went to Canadian Tire for a cutting blade. I already had Canadian Tire money so I only paid 24 cents for it. I just hand hold it to cut. It's not that hard. Only thing is, my hand cramps a little.

there's nothing wrong with modding your case if it's the kind of thing that interests you. personally, i enjoy it. 🙂 (you can never had too many fans 😉

I recommend this 3-speed 120mm fan for $52 shipped. The fan is kinda expensive, but look what they throw in with it 😎 That'll fix your heat problem, no sweat.

Just remember...

Lots of fans does NOT NOT NOT mean a cooler case people.

Proper airflow from the front to the back is what is much more important.

With a lot of side fans and the like one may just end up whirling the air in a big circle inside the case [READ: not good]

You want a case that has a 120MM fan pushing air into the case and one, or two, pushing it out in the back. Quiet, simple.

Antec Sonata I, Antec Sonata II are pretty inexpensive quality cases that will put you further ahead, with less work, than "modding" your case.

my .02 cents

cover the opened side with a panty hose then stick a huge oscillating fan blowing into the case. you'll be styling in no time.

Best and cheapest way.

grab the case that linked (or wait for the lanboy to be on sale), or one of those chenming/antec huge old towers. my old SX830 is not quiet but it does get the air flowing, even when i took out the 60mm CPU fan and swapped in a 80mm with a fan adapter.

theres a guy that made a case out of zipties and fans. you could ziptie together a buncha $1.50 80mm and use that as a door😉

Just wondering because I was looking at a Cooler Master and it only has a 120mm in the back and a 8mm in the front.
