my '99 civic has a pretty loud exhaust...its the stock one though. i'm sure people think i'm a riceboi when i don't get around to shifting till 3500-4000 rpms, but f u.
Its called you got a hole in it. A stock civic exhuast is dead quiet.
I've got a nice exhuast on my Accord, has a deep rumble at idle and opens up nicely up top. Honestly, from inside the car the intake drowns it outIts never been described as rice, however.
loud intakes are worse imho. but hey, to each his own yes?

And this is different from a muscle car with a loud exhaust how?

its not the exhausts that sound bad its those stupid ricer 4 and 6 bangers... those motors just dont sound good... in the past generations it was amercan V8s and dumped exhausts...
they want power and exhuast is the easiest way to gain up to 50 hp on any car...
blame japan for making the motors sound like that...
glad I grew up when Japanese cars were a joke for the street scene.. I miss the good old V8 sound..
anyone anyone ?Originally posted by: rh71
The only different sounding engine/exhaust I like is the hum of the Infinitis/Nissans... (G35/350Z/FX35/45)... how do they make it sound like that ? Is it just a different exhaust or is it something they did with the engine ?

Go start your car, turn it off. Fart. There's your comparison.

I have a problem with the whole import "scene". It has become a poserfest, with people trying to emulate the "performance look" without actually actually adding performance.
You see this ricer with ridiculous stickers all over the car. He has a loud intake and a loud exhaust. The look and sound of the car scream, "look at me, I'm a poser". The only thing missing is the actual performance. After all, it is an econobox that wasn't built for performance.
I drive a Nissan, and all my mods are subtle but effective. I go for the actual performance without going for the "look" like a poser does. My car is very quiet because the turbos muffle the intake and exhaust pulses.

Brands like HKS, Greddy..ect are relatively quiet at normal acceleration but still manages to give a deep sound at WOT. Problem is, these systems are pricey...$500 and up for a nice one.
It's those cheap universal mufflers you can get a Kragen or Pepboys that sound like a fart can. It's these that most people can afford. It's these that give the reputable brands a bad image.
