I need to get more disciplined. What should I do?

I really need to get more disciplined. The last few years I've been ok, but I'm realizing I lack the discipline I used to have. If I was more focused I'm positive I'd be able to get back in shape and further my career.

What do you guys do when you need to get back on track? Are there any good books you would recommend?

I need goals

to give you an example

I'm into mountaineering and in July I'm going to climb a rather high mountain so I know I have to be in shape. So every time I'm doing my 12km training runs and I get bored I visualize myself on that mountain suffering because I didn't train hard enough. I also run in actual road races to prevent myself from saying "I still have 6 months - I have time enough".

try to apply that strategy to your career

just my 0,2 eurocent

Register for a marathon or something a few months down the road with some friends. You don't need to run it, jog it or something.

Goals, go out and purchase a blackboard and hang it on your fridge, write down your goals and set a definitive date on when they are to be completed, if you fail to complete any of them on time, punish yourself.

I was going through something similar recently and realized I had no future goals. I was entirely too comfortable with what I had and the way things were going which led to getting lazy. Which in turn cost me my marriage. On the bright side now I have a goal again and it has motivated me to be better than what I was and even if I accomplish that goal I still have the motivation to not become what I was.

Find one here.

Fortunately I know what to do career wise, I just need to out my plan in motion. I guess my biggest issue really is getting back in shape.

for some reason it helps me to think about what my ex gf would think if she saw me out of shape or failing. It sounds twisted, but I try to succeed/keep in shape just to show her up.
