I need to get a scooter. Recommendations?

If you want reliability or just access to replacement parts, skip Chinese scooters. KYMCO is Taiwanese and a good scooter though.

If you do go Chinese at least get one with a GY6 engine clone so you can get parts from ebay.

Otherwise for 50cc, Honda Rukus, Yamaha C3, or Aprilia SR50 Factory are all good choices.

Registration on 50ccs are cheap, if you want highway get a 125 - 250 cc. Aprilia Has a good highway scooter with triple disk brakes and fuel injection, Piaggio is also good. Yamaha makes a 125cc version of the C3 also

The only downside to >50cc scooters is a motorcycle endorsement and motorcycle insurance are required, but you do get access to the Highway.

Good dealers are just as important as good scooters too.

That CH250 and the Helix look good. The Helix seems to have a cult following and are know as being one of the most comfortable scooters around, reliable too. Honda parts are easy to get also.

The Helix is a 250 iirc.

Sorry if noob question, but where do you put groceries? Lol

How bout just a bicycle?

The Honda Ruckus has ample grocery space under the seat. I would suggest a Ruckus so you can chop it out like this guy and get 20% of your man card back. Parts are cheap and easy to find too.

I bought a Honda Metro for college and it has been awesome... owned it for about 6 years now and have had ZERO problems. I'm like 6'0" and 190 lbs. and fit on it well, does about 45 mph with me on it and no wind, 100 mpgs, has handle bar and kick stand locks which is nice if you're leaving it out...

With school I always had a backpack but as far as storage, the under seat area is larger than you would expect, there is a hook to hang a bag by your knees, and if you get the little rack on the back you can fit a good deal more.

If I ever got a scooter, I'd get a Yamaha Zuma (the 50cc version). It just looks like it would be a lot of fun, plus there's a huge aftermarket for it.

I'm going to probably get a black 2010 Kymco Pronto 50 for $600. Gonna go check it out right now.

are you in HI already? how're you liking it there?

Not bad. Very similar to California, just hotter and more humid, which I don't like. Hawaii is actually going to be cheaper to live in than the Bay Area I feel. Restaurant food is cheap and plentiful. Scooter and the gas will be cheap. Rent is cheaper.

Only thing I don't like is that there's so many people here. Lots of tourists. I've never seen some Starbucks stores so packed before.

I think I'm going to start feeling claustrophobic after a while. I mean, it's an island and looks to be like 60 miles across from end to end. I bet the novelty will wear off quickly for me.

I thought you wrecked your Ninja? Sorry I'm out of the loop... didn't see the thread about you moving to Hawaii.

Yup. Drunk driver hit me.

I test rode this scooter for like 50 feet. It scares the hell out of me but I'm sure I'll get used to it. It just feel so... lively.

+2 for the Yamaha Yuma 50cc.
With that you don't need to get a motorcycle license.
It'll hit 40mph and you can mod it to go faster.
I really want to get one but the wife won't let me have one.

This motorcycle license... I've already got a California license with the M1 (motorcycle) endorsement. Does this mean I already have a motorcycle license and don't have to worry about getting another one just for Hawaii?

Heh, I know nothing about motorcycle license.
I was looking for a scooter without needing a license and this is the best one out there.
