I am considering putting together a wooden model ship. A lot of people really get into it and I think it looks like fun. You can get a good quality wood model for about $150 on ebay.

check out your local community college... alot of the "continuing education" courses offered during the summer are essentially classes on hobbies.

might be a good place to get a good intro to something. seems like that's where i always falter when it comes to new hobbies...

Karaoke can become quite addicting. Well, watching others try it at least can be quite satisfying. :)

I first recommend mastering, "Take My Breath Away", before hitting up any bars.

Help people. Surely there's something you can teach people.

Exercise.

Learn to play video game music on a recorder.

Learn a foreign language. I recommend Klingon.

Yea, I also miss the days when I had passionate hobbies such as sports cards. Then I got into Magic:The Gathering cards. Then I starting getting serious about basketball.

These days however, it's difficult to delegate time to a hobby. With a new career and a gf, I can barely make time for friends. Graduate school is on the horizon as well. I barely fit time in for the gym anymore.

But yea, it would be nice to have a new hobby and the time to pursue it.

All of these are fun; however they are best done when people around you already do them so you can get some advice on how best to start. Ask your friends if any of them do these. If you lived in Maryland I would let you in on a few.

That is one hobby that I try to devote time to everyday!

I think it's a little odd to ask for a hobby. I think most people tend to gravitate toward what interests them. If you like wine, then maybe you need to learn more about it and perhaps take up winemaking. Do you like music? Take up the piano as others have suggested.

Following are my "hobbies." Some might have already been mentioned.

1) Piano. Been playing since I was a kid though, so not really a hobby.
2) Winemaking. Great fun and rewarding. Be prepared to invest a fair amount of time though. The wine kits (especially reds) rarely produce anything really drinkable, so you're better off with fresh grapes. It's harder to produce a good wine than it is a good beer, imo.
3) Astronomy. If you have kids, this could be a great investment. This one will likely inspire you in ways you hadn't before experienced.
4) Chess. Great for the mind and great fun.
5) Cooking. Why not? Everyone has to eat. Might as well maximize the potential of one thing you could/should be doing often.
6) Exercise. You could set a goal for yourself and work to achieve it. Maybe you want to gain or lose weight, or maybe you just want to increase your stamina.

There are some great outdoor hobbies, but I don't have the capacity to do these on a regular basis:

7) Rock climbing
8) Kayaking
9) Swimming
10) Running
11) Tennis

etc. Those can turn into hobbies if you really get interested in them. Have fun.

I started to get into astronomy and got a $500 telescope and tons of other accessories and i hardly use it anymore :(

when i did use it and could see cool stuff, it was fun but i dunno, after awhile it became a pain to drag out the scope, etc. it might be better if i lived somewhere more conducive to seeing the sky. i live in a rural area so dark sakies aren't a problem, its all the tress and crap that block that skies at my house.

I have to second this idea. I needed a hobby that would help me in Law school, nothing that would take up all of my time, but something that would help to regulate it. And setting up a saltwater aquarium did just that.

And as a bonus, they are beautiful.

If you are passionate about it, then this is the way to go.

I've chronicled my fish tank here: Flickr
