I need to build a cheap new box!

I've been way out of the new technology loop too long, but I want to spend $500 or less preferably, go AMD 64bit and be able to play the current games out there, I can of course build it myself, and only the tower and its componenets are needed, my current monitor keyboard, mouse and peripherals will suffuice, I am not huge on monster sound either, I find that most onboard sound and lan solutions suffice for my needs. Please give some suggestions and reasoning, mind you I am no novice but its been over a year since I was watching the forefront of technology. Thanks in advance

What settings you looking to play at? To be honest for $500 you would get a much better used pre-built system off the FS/FT forums for $400-$500.

Otherwise I would look at a AM2 system with single core,1gb,7600GT,ect. Even buying used parts you will get better/faster stuff then buying new.
