You know this from the first weighing, where the group 1,2,3,4 either moved up making it lighter or moved down making it heavier.

if 1234 moved up how do you know it wasn't due to 5678 being heavier?

edit nvm i think i got it.

So, to sunmmarize, the answer to the dragon riddle is the Knight brings regular water for both cups and drinks from well 1 befre hand? And the Dragon brings both cups from well 6.

you don't know.

thats why on weigh in 2, you do 1235 and 4 9 10 11.

because if 1235 moves up, you know the ball is in 123 and its lighter as its impossible for 4 to be the weird heavier ball and make 4 9 10 11 move down since in weigh in 1, 1234 was lighter.

if 1235 moves down, you know either 4 is lighter or 5 is heavier and thus you pick either 4 or 5 on your 3rd weigh in and weigh it against any of the other 10.

if it balances, you know ball is in 678 and its heavier since 5678 was heavier than 1234.

He drinks from well 1 before arriving to the competition. So whichever bottle the dragon brings(including 6), he cures himself. it doesn't work tho because if the dragon brings water from well 1, he's screwed. If he brings water from well 2 as his second drink to compensate for dragon bringing water from (1), and the dragon brings water from well 6, he screws himself.
You're thinking too hard. The dragon will bring water from group 6 because he's just a stupid dragon, and not as smart as the human. ;)

To make it a real game theory problem, the dragon and the human have to know all possible strategies for the other and then it is possible for either to lose. Given that the dragon died and the knight didn't you know that dragon had to bring water from well 6 though.

The whole problem is fux0red if the dragon was smart enough to drink from well no. 1 before arriving.

That's what the 8 possilbe outcomes I describes are. 1,2,3,4 are possible lighter. 5,6,7,8 are possible heavier. That is 8 outcomes. The second weighing further splits those 8 things in to these three groups. 1,2,3 lighter. 6,7,8 heavier. 4 lighter, 5 heavier. Those are your groups of 3-3-2. You can solve from there.

Right, but you *know* that the knight lived and the dragon died. That's part of the problem. Then you deduced why. It didn't ask for a strategy where the knight *always* lives. That isn't possible.

Edit: 25 posts by me already. :Q I never poat this much.....

I don't like these problems as much as you assume that the dragon was smart enough to bring 2 glasses from well 6 but not smart enough to either bring regular water or well 1 water himself.

Joseph was a prisoner who was sentenced to life in prison. He was desperate to get out of prison, but the prison is heavily barred and well guarded. He can't escape that way. He has a small dagger to dig a hole into the floor with, but it is useless to try to tunnel out because the walls which are made of concrete extend deep into the ground. The only opening is a small skylight in the middle of the ceiling nine feet above. The jail is absolutely bare, and there is nothing to stand on to reach the ceiling. Yet Joseph manages to escape.
How does Joseph do it?

But if you want to ship me,
You'll put me right inside of me.

I wear many different hats you know,
In construction plus I'm tracing,
I also do work for the board,
Lots of kids use me for a racing.

You can fold me, tear me,
Rip me without using all your might,
But be careful how you touch me,
I may give you my famous bite.

Two people are talking on the phone long distance. One is in an East Coast state of the U.S., the other is in a West Coast state of the U.S. The first asks the other, "What time is it?" He hears the answer and says, "That's funny. It's the same time here!" Neither one of them were mistaken about the time. How is this possible?

Hint
Think about time zones.

The Ringmaster set his 25 acrobats a challenge, he challenges them to walk over the smallest tight rope (in width) in the world. He says to each one of the acrobats "You can do it,trust me". Each acrobats attempts the walk and only one acrobat successfully walks the rope to the other side. Every acrobat says "The ringmaster was right in what he said to all of us". How was the ringmaster right if only one acrobat walked the rope to the other side?
