I've installed 4 of those cards on 350watt power supplies with 16A and have had no issues. You will be fine.

A PCI e x1 slot is only about an inch long. If you fit a regular 8400GS in a long PCIe slot, that is a X16.

300 Watts should be ok with a 8500GT. Do not put a 7600GT in that computer. It will fry that psu.

Later down the line you might want to go ahead and invest in a better PSU. You can buy a decent 500 Watt psu online for less than $50. This way if you ever decide to upgrade again, you will have the power to use just about any card you wish.

it can run fine on a 6600gt or something. depends what resolution you are running but even 1600x1200 is probably ok with a 6600gt/ 7600gs / 8500gt (all reasonably close in speed).

id say on the safe side, by a used 7600gt in fs/ft. might cost you less than $65

Hey guys , a very interesting turn of events has taken place.

I returned the 8400gs and was gonna grab an 8500GT or
one of the others you guys suggested,
but decided to hold off a day so I could think about it.

Meanwhile I came back home and decided to make one more
search to see if anybody found a fix for the black screen ,
seeming like a frame rate issue caused it. I wasn't sure.
Anyhow.....

I found an answer here, post #366 ..........

http://72.14.253.104/search?q=...=en&ct=clnk&cd=6&gl=us

Researched showed me that many others were having the same black screen
issue like me.

I did it and bam, problem solved , believe it or not my onboard
graphics chip runs better than the 8400GS @ 800x600.
The 8400GS could run at 1024x768 but it got choppy , even
with the graphic settings turned way down.
I aint even tried 1024x768 on the 950 yet.
But all I can say is 800x600 is very playable,
so much so that I am not going to buy a graphics
card.
he he!!

I am very impressed with this 950 now , ive never seen
an onboard graphics chip perform this well!!!!!!!!!!

thanks guys , I appreciate the help.

I played Wow on my dell laptop with onboard graphics, worked pretty well. Wow is easy to run, for instance it ran great on my 6600gt with highish settings on a low resolution with the ui scaled down for looks.
