It appears as if I have accidentally pushed earwax into the ear canal. Now my right ear feels as if it's underwater. I am leaving for Colorado tomorrow so I cannot schedule an appointment with my family doctor and I don't feel like going to the E.R. and paying a base fee of $50. So, has anyone been faced with this situation? What did you do?

I had this problem once before and my doctor used a syringe-type thing to spray warm water in my ear and somehow the ball of wax came out. But... I don't have such a cool device.

Please tell me what I can safely do at home.

Um, use Q-tip in the other ear and push it back out?

1. Don't Panic lol
2. I stuck plenty of q-tips all the way up my ears in my younger days to know it heals by itself.

What heals by itself? I didn't injure myself or anything...
The ball of wax has no reason to come out -- in fact, it's going to grow in my ear unless I remove it.
When I previously had this situation, I also thought that I should just give it time. I found out, though, that it grew in my ear to become the size of a raisin.

They sell little ear cleaning kits at most stores. I think its hydrogen peroxide and a syringe for flushing it out, not too sure.

buy an ear wax removal kit from Sav Ons or Rite Aid. Just put a couple of drops in the ear and let it sit for about 20 minutes then use the bulb and flush it out with warm water

hydrogen peroxide is the ghetto cure for thisand may well fix the problem for $0.99

If you want a slightly more advanced treatment, go to the local pharmacy and buy Debrox. It bubbles like peroxide but also has something in it that dissolves ear wax. You put a few drops in your ear, let it sink in for a minute and then drain your ear. Out oozes the melted wax...

Whoa...Never had that happen before. Sorry. Healing takes on a role more than a broken bone of course . Since you have a credited history of pushing a ball of wax down your ears... All I can say is healthboards.com .

In the 1700s the british royalty used to use the ear wax of slaves to remove body hair.

Thank you, all, for your responses.
I went to Walgreens and picked up an $8 ear wax removal kit... it looks almost exactly like what Mloot recommended except has silicone ear plugs to keep the fluid from coming out, plus a small pan. A few minutes later, my ear is clear.
