Ok i just put togerther a new rig so i decided to oc my 165. If i set my fsb to 270, my computer boots. Then if i go right back into the bios and i set to 290 it boots again and i get into windows. It was prime stable for about 2 hours, i haven't done 12 or 24 hours yet. when i turn it off for the night tho, in the morning when i turn it on it wont boot. i turn it off and on again and the bios tells me there was an overclock error. i change my fsb back to 270, boot then change back to 290 again an it boots now into windows again with everything working stable. So whats the problem???

The opty is running on 1.4V and temps are idle=32C-33C load=39C-40C

Also on the side note since i have watercooling i wouild think i could get my opty at higher speeds, but my first core fails prime65 at 300fsb (2.7ghz) any ideas?

Thnx for the help guys

Some boards just don't like big changes of FSB speed, could be that but it's a stab in the dark.

For stability you have to up the voltage, how high you go is up to you though.

ic.....but i'm rely making big changes, its like it boots at 290, i turn off, leave for a while (overnight) then i turn on and it wont boot anymore at 290, i have to then lower and raise again to boot, does that count as a big change? well thnx for help anyway

Hmm, good point. No idea then. Have you been using the machine without an overclock yet? Just want to make sure it's not a boot issue that's unrelated to the overclock.

Jeez..overclokcing is more than a quick change in fsb

what are your chipset voltage..probably need more to be stable at 290

vcore may need to be increased to maintain stablity

ram settings and vdimm?...

is your board even reliable and tested to run a 290 fsb...not all mobos will do that

have you tested to find max fsb on your mobo

mobo may need an updated bios...

Well, first, Primed for two hours doesn't mean much. When I first started working on my current system I primed for a little while, then went to bed, and in the morning I would find it had rebooted itself.

Second, you don't say what you are doing with the multiplier, memory divider, etc. Could be your memory works fine at the current multi with a 270 fsb, then craps out at 290. There are a few more variables aside from just fsb.

MY Mobo is an ASUS A8R MVP, i believe it can easialy handle 290 since it DOES boot at 290, even 310, just that its not stable higher than 290 and that if i turn it off overnight and turn it back on THEN it wont boot unless i boot with less fsb then raise it back, MY vcore is 1.4V, i would put more and oc more but Asus's vcore overvoltage doesn't work :|, i'm not sure if i have the latest bios i'll check up on that

MY mem multiplyer is 133, CPU-Z says my mem is running at 186mhz, so thats not the problem since its rated 200mhz, Ram voltage is at default so ram shouldn't be the problem
