I wouldnt use an Adaptec AAA in a server app... The Mylex 170 is a better choice. Check out AMI also. Both are true hardware RAID.

I thought the AAA's were hardware, just available in a 0 channel? Mylex is good too though, I'd research it but I'm sure there must be drivers in Linux already.

Looks like a killer server to me. Just one question: What will it be used for? Seems like overkill unless you will have a really high traffic website or database.

My style is to have one large backend server, and a high capacity hot spare, feeding a bunch of cheaper servers that could die. The backend gets good storage that wont die, the others don't matter so much. I'll probably give them SCSI drives in the future, but they have/will have cheap hardware so they'll die now and then. I currently only have two servers, one doing web serving and the other SSL web pages, logins, and email. So for now it's load distribution. I'll probably need 2 web servers, that's three if I want a spare. I'll probably just let me main server's hot spare be a webserver hot spare though. They all share an httpd.conf, so I'll just move IP's around as I need to.

<< AAA is not hardware. RAID processing is done in the device driver >>

That is really good to know, thankyou for that input.

So, the big question is if the enlight case can handle a dual Athlon board, but I can just replace the PS. :)
