Feel free to block this if it doesn't belong. But I dont know where else to turn due to the warranty issue (there is none). I have had this stereo for about 3 years, working great. I used to be able to play cds in it (at least non-cdr), but last night I bought a new cd and a laser cleaning kit. I put in the cleaning kit and try to play it. I makes a noise like its trying to read the cd, but cant. So it turns and turns and finds no cd and stops. GREAT! So I pop it open and put in the new audio cd, same thing. What is the problem here? Could someone help me out with this and guide me on how to fix it. I can't afford a new one (eventhough I do want one). It is an AIWA CX-NMT50. Thanks.:)

My AIWA also gave about 3 years of service before it started getting touchy about reading CDs. I tried cleaning with no luck. There is no rhyme or reason, sometimes it will work right away, other times I have to open and close the tray and it will work, but usually it just won't work.

No more AIWAs for me, although I do have an AIWA portable personal player that is pretty old and has never had a problem.

Same thing happened to me with an RCA. It just would not read any CDs. Maybe if I tried like 10 or 20 times it would eventually read the CD, but by and large it wouldn't. POS RCA.

OK, I appreciate your thoughts on AIWA and I actually agree. I am not buying another AIWA or SONY product for awhile. I might ask my dad to get me a new Kenwood or something. Any suggestions on a good stereo system that will play cdrs?? I dont need any surround sound or anything like that. LMK what you have and what you suggest. Thanks again.

that is so concidental. I have a Aiwa mid-size system NSX-V8000 While it is decent and all, after about 3-4 years of purchase, now even it has problems reading CDs. I cleaned it from outside (with lens cleaner, air blowers etc ) many times with limited success. Then finally 2 months back, I got pissed off and opened up the whole system. Gave the laser and lens a darn good "air-blow" job and now it seems to be working fine. It has been a PITA of late.

I think their lens system is too -over-sensitive or probably not designed to handle a bit of dust correctly.

And to think if Aiwa is nothing but rebagded Sony ...:frown:

I was also inspired to take mine apart and clean it. It helped some but there are still certain CDs that will just not play. It must be whatever senses if there is a CD in it, because sometimes it just won't spin the CD to read the tracks, the exact same thing it does when the slot is empty. I'll try Google Groups again, I am curious to see if it is the laser or something else that determines whether it thinks it has a disc or not.

LOL. You are quite welcome...

Yup, in most cases it is the laser. But if you are mentioning that the CD doesn't even spin, then check your contact points for a leaf-switch. The leaf-switch usually "tells" the circuitry that the CD is in place to read. When the laser is the culprit, usually the CD on loading, spins for a while and refuses to get recognized.

<< same thing with my aiwa. tried cleaning it with no luck >>

You gotta give a serious persistent burst of air to the laser/lens. Use a decent-pressurised air-canister. If nothing else works, you can try using some alcohol and cleaning the lens with a ear-cleaning bud.

Ofcourse, standard disclaimer: Do all above at your own risk. Do not blame me if it fails or makes things worse... ;)

HTH.

LOL, it is cool to be putting some of my electronics engineering finally to some use after all these years in IT...
