I just put together a Duron and A7V system. Connected the RAM, the video card, IDE cables and power for the drives. Everything is as it should be. Here's the funny part. When I plug in the power (not turn it on), the computer boots up on its own for 10 seconds or so then dies. Weird. So I turn it on. I hear the drives turning but nothing comes on the screen. The motherboard doesn't even beep or anything. I cannot even get into the BIOS. Anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem might be?

Another weird thing I noticed is that when I unplug the power cord, the LED on the motherboard will stay lit for about 5 seconds before it turns off. Is that normal?

Yup, those are totally normal with new ATX casing and as for the LED light down. They take a while to completety discharge the whole board.

I was getting the same symptoms. I thought I had zapped my board but actually I had just accidentally pulled a jumper half way up. In jumperless mode if any are pulled up the board turns itself off or something like that. Anyway, make sure all the jumpers are pushed down.

And the light thing is normal.

Have the same problem! Now on my second A7V mobo and it has same problem. Tried all connections and jumpers. Have 300w PS but it may not be working correctly. I guess I will send back my case and PS. I do not know what else to do. Any other suggestions.

for some reason, the a7v will power on when you plug in the atx ps and kill itself. don't know why.

as for your problem actually booting up after that, you might want to reseat your agp card. that solves most of the problems i've had with computers starting up, but with nothing on screen. if that persists, your powersupply might be an issue.

In the bios, go to "Power" and then down to the item that deals with Auto Power On (or something similar).
Hit enter and a new group of options opens. The first is (something like) "Auto start after power loss" and it is "disabled" by default. Change that to "enable" and you're problem will go away.

If other suggestions given do not work, check your motherboard manual for instructions on resetting the bios. I believe there are contacts on the motherboard that have to be shorted to accomplish this. Several monthes ago, I put together an A7V that had a similiar problem and I was only able to get it to boot by resetting the bios. Once I did this it booted fine.

The A7V does that and its perfectly normal, it will power on for a short while when you plug in or turn on the PSU, its basically a self test.... it will not actually turn on unless you press the power button on the case.
