I need some help picking components...

Hello All,

I need to build a new machine on a budget of $500 dollars.

The parts I need are:
Video Card
Ram
AMD chip (i prefer them to Pentium)
Hard Drive
Motherboard

I want this system to be fast for gaming more than anything else.... My old box will be turned into a server with 600 gigs of space, so for the HD, I want speed over size, but I guess it would have to be 80gigs or bigger....

Everything Else I have.....

Anyone have any ideas for the fastest comp I can make on that budget?

Thanks!!!!!

$500 will barely get you hardware. What is your old box? A brand new build might not be the key, but get cheap parts for the server and re-use some stuff.

Well In essense all I want to do for the build is upgrade my chip/mobo/video card.

I'd like some faster ram as well, and a HD to take advantage of it all.

I was thinking of dongsomething like this...

AMD Barton 2500+ aprrox 80
Mobo... Unknown which to get approx 100
Ram Unknown which to get 100ish for a 512 megs
ATI Radion 9800 pro 200ish
Hard drive 120ish?

I guess a better question would be...

What ram, mobo, and Harddrive should i purchase to stay within my budget (give or take) that will help make this system fly. I am planning on overclocking.

As for my old box though. Its a AMD 1800+ 1 gig ram 2100, 6 HD's various sizes adding up to 600 gigs or so. Pioneer DVDr, Gforce MX2, Epox Mobo..

radeon 9800 pro: its prices will go down once the new ATI cards come out
1 gig crucial ddr400
WD 74 gig raptor
asus mobo... i forget what the amd one is called

I forgot the model but newegg.com has a Shuttle motherboard for about $65 that has gotten good reviews from users. It apparently overclocks well.
