Hello all,

I just got a new XP1900+ CPU with an Abit KX7-333 and 256mb of PC2700 memory. It runs great, but I can't overclock at all. I tried 138fsb (a tiny overclock), and windows won't boot. Any ideas? I don't want to unlock the CPU because I want to keep my 3 year warranty. Here are the markings on the chip:

AGOGA 0202SPKW

Can you raise vcore slightly?

What are rest of specs, ie PSU???

What kind of ram??? Make sure you are testing with lowest timings available...

I can raise vcore from the default 1.75 volts to 1.85.

At default speeds, my CPU is idling at 45C.

My PSU is a 350W Enermax.

The memory is Samsung PC2700 memory. I am running it at 166mhz/CAS2/lowest possible timings with no problems.

Have you tried to boost vcore?? Try it and see if it post...If it does it is definitely the range of your cpu...Higher range xps have less headroon to oc and hence why many get the 1600+ right now. PLus the AGOGA is not the newer step[ping many are getting those extreme 1600+ ocs from anyways...

Also when testing keep memory at lowest ...That means run the memory at 1:1 ratio for now...at 138 you should only be at 276mhz ddr...Just go ahead and test it to see if the ram is your limiting factor...

We are trying to troubleshoot here and we need to begin to isolate things...

Ok I managed to get it into windows at 140FSB (1680mhz) when I backed off the ram timings. It wasn't stable though. This chip just doesn't want to overclock. I would not reccomend this stepping to anyone, it's terrible. There are 1600+ CPUs that overclock better than this one. Even at 1.85 volts it won't overclock! I even pumped up the memory and system voltage settings and it still wouldn't boot at anything higher than 138fsb. It's strange because it posts at 1752mhz at default voltage. Maybe I need better cooling...I'm using my old OCZ Gladiator with a 5000rpm fan right now.

maybe...Definitely worth a try unless you want to bag it altogether and get something else...

Actually, I just took off my HSF to try using the stock AMD HSF that came with the cpu, and I discovered that I had it on backwards...I don't know if this matters or not. I also noticed that Prime95 wasn't stable even at default speeds!! Very strange. I'm going to try the scock HSF and see if that changes anything. I thought that my copper OCZ gladiator would be better than the stock one, but I suppose I could be wrong.

Oh, also, I'm getting temps of 52C at full load at stock speeds/voltage. This seems way too high to me. It's starting to look like I'm going to need a HSF. Any suggestions? I don't want to spend more than $30.

Ok, I just tried the stock HSF, and beleive it or not, I'm getting temps 3C lower! 49C loaded now, and it's stable so far (20 mins of prime95).
