Our kitchen is still in the process of rennovations and that leaves us with not a lot of options for dinner.
Grilling is out as its raining today. The problem is, i have a hard time eating a lot of prepared food because of the MSG content in it.

Can anyone think of any ideas that would be a good meal just made in the mircowave or that do not need to be cooked at all?

I am SO sick of eating out.

Care to qualify this statement? What do you mean by 'hard time'?

😕

I understand not wanting crappy fast food though.

I guess i should have said I CANNOT eat any processed foods with MSG or a lot of phosphates in them. The MSG makes me deathly ill (vomiting/migraines) and the sodium phosphates do the same.

Most boxed foods have at least one of those things in them.

Wow, I feel for ya. That's gotta be rough. Aren't those things just used as preservatives? Do you have to kill your own cow before you eat? 😉

no. MSG is a flavor enchancer. It is in almost everything and anything... from chips, crackers, all soups in cans. i have to make sure to buy organic chicken and beef.
The other stuff... i forgot why my dr said not to eat things with that, but i do know that it makes me almost as sick.

If there's an organic or co-op nearby, they can recommend some healthy dishes w/o MSG that could be cooked w/ a microwave. You can steam different foods in the microwave...rice, chicken, veggies, etc. If you're in CA, I'll be glad to make food for you guys 😀

Michigan is a loooong way. I might go to whole foods or something to see what they have.

mashed potatoes a la microwave

i could most certainly eat a whole bowl of them with some butter and chives for dinner, but alas, my dearest hubby could not!

my wife just made chocolate cake in the microwave and it was really good. SHe's a Pampered Chef consultant and they have all kinds of neat receipes.

I grill when it rains. I just pull the grill up by the house and stand under the overhang.

I do the same.. I pull the grill to the door almost and grill away with only getting a tad bit wet 🙂

I fail to see the reason that your hubby must eat the same foods as you eat. Pile on the mashed potatoes for you and the MSG filled foods for him.

By the way, do you get migranes from MSG that is natural (tomatoes, muchrooms, cheese, meat, etc.)? That'll help us narrow down our microwave recipe lists.

I just finished putting in my cabinets... working on counter top now...

I have been without my kitchen WAYYYY too long. I have ate tuna right from the can 20 times this month.. would have been more but thats all that came in my bulk pack.

i remember a "ham on the street" episode where george durant did all microwave foods? or maybe it was just a segment in one episode.. i dunno.. i remember him making like a soup or a stew or something.. anyhow, you can try looking that episode up on the www.foodnetwork.com

Got a foreman grill?

Or, if you have a garage, you could put the grill at the very edge of the garage and it should be okay.

Or howabout just going to get some coldcuts and make sandwiches, salads... make some watermelon or some sort of fruit and doing it indoor picnic style.

You can steam a lot of foods in the microwave.

Or you can hold an umbrella over the both of you while wiz grills.

nope... not from natural occuring MSG.

I used to get Migraines from everything, MSG's, stress, weather. I had perscriptions but they interfered with my daily life so I didn't take them. The ones I got put me on my back for a day, more specifically in my dark walk in closet.

Lola I suggest picking up some Zinc and Magnesium, around 30mg of Zinc and 450mg of Mg, and take it daily before you go to bed. it does wonders for migraines and mine have disappeared except for the occasional one brought on by bad sinuses. I can go to a bad chinese place now and not get migraines. If anyone remembers, this is how Terrel Davis (broncos) cured his.

When you're cooking with a microwave, it's best to make dishes with a lot of moisture in them. Casseroles are usually a good start. You can't do MSG, so a lot of my sausage and ham ideas are out the window. You could do a simple chicken and dressing recipe. Something like:

1 box Stove Top (or just use about 1/2 lb. seasoned bread crumbs or croutons)
4 cans of chunck chicking or turkey

If you're using bread crumbs, mince up a stalk or two of celery, and small onion. Mix all ingredients together with 1/2 cup melted butter (again, only if you're not using Stove Top).

Cover and microwave for around 10 minutes or so. Let it steam for 5-10 minutes after that. While you're waiting, heat up a jar of gravy and your favorite veggie. Should be a nice filling meal.
