I need some good music.

Check out 'Robert Plant and Alison Krauss - Raising Sand' if you haven't already.

anymore like this??? this is great stuff.

I'm in agreement with you there. "Polly Come Home" and "Trampled Rose" I like especially.

I don't care about what you're listening to "right now", it's probably crap and you probably won't be willing to admit that you liked it a year from now. I need something amazing from any genre of music.

If you're serious about "any genre", you shouldn't have problem finding good music you could "admit to liking" perpetually.

Bah, I'm just trying to get you people thinking in the right direction. I don't want the nifty little pop band you heard one song by last week and have instantly declared musical genius. I've done that before too, but quite a few of those drop off after I've heard them again a while later. I want music that sticks with you forever.

I don't have a problem finding good music every now and then. Even then the pickings begin to get slim since I've heard enough music that some stuff that would have impressed me in the past no longer does. Chances are some of you've heard some great music that I haven't.

I want to benefit from your musical knowledge, and I want you to think about it hard enough to refrain from giving your latest "band of the week". Maybe I should have phrased it that way... So far it's worked though. I've already picked up a few cool tunes from this thread.

Thanks again all.

2007 was an awesome year for new musical discoveries, even if much of the music is a few years old... hopefully these are varied enough for you.

Excellent downtempo electronica:

Bonobo - Dial "M" For Monkey
Bonobo - Days to Come

Outstanding acoustic guitar, including the best cover of Stairway to Heaven I've ever heard:

Rodrigo y Gabriela - Rodrigo y Gabriela

Awesome prog rock:

Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet

The best pure pop album I've heard in years:

Imogen Heap - Speak For Yourself

The question was how serious are you about "any genre"? Are you really considering them, or are efforts like Crazee's recent list just a waste of time for you? What are your experiences, bounds, interests and biases in general?

Yeah. That song by Murder by Death is cool. I picked it up from Amazon a little while ago. I'm looking into more of their stuff right now.

I like Jazz so Crazee's list has definitely been worth my time.

I'm trying to get through everything in the thread one at a time and really give it all serious consideration. The genre I find myself listening to the most is usually rock, but there's no reason for me to write off everything else. If I request that people tailor the list to what I usually listen to then I might miss something great.

Of course there are genres that I like less that others overall, but they're all varied enough even within themselves that there are probably still gems there to be found.

When I mentioned Albert Hammond Jr. I hadn't even listened to his whole album. Now I have and "Blue Skies" is really good, I think he uses a sitar in it.

Saul Williams - The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust

NIN produced project album to see how many people would actually support a cheap album or just take the free download. Download the album in 192kb mp3 for free or pay $5 and get it in one of three formats.

Its not bad. Kind of funny hearing Trent Reznors voice in a hip hop album.
